UTILIZATION
This is a fairly straight forward delay pedal to use with two exceptions. One, the delay switch on the side. It changes the delay from a short delay to a long echo type delay. The second is the Echodrive knob. This allows you to add gain to the delay stages creating feedback. It can also be dialed in clean. Other than that, all the knobs work as you'd expect them to.

SOUND QUALITY
This is the most lush, deep, glorious sounding delay pedal I have found. It is warm without being mushy or getting lost. It is not the most transparent sounding delay. You will definitely know you've turned it on, and that's a good thing, in my opinion.
If you are a tweaker, you will love the fact that you can open up the box and try different preamp tubes to change the tone of the pedal.
OVERALL OPINION
You need to keep in mind that there are at least five different versions of the Echodrive floating around. The original Echodrive was in a blue enclosure and was analog. More common are the red enclosure varieties. The red boxes are digital delays. Both sound great, the blue version sounding a little warmer (not that the red version sounds cold at all). I have seen four different versions of the red pedal. The first version maintained the same screen printing that the blue one did (has the fingers pointing to the input and outputs, Echodrive knob labeled "Record Level", etc.). The second version had input improperly spelled as "Intput". The third version had the spelling corrected. The fourth added a "Slam" knob and foot switch to throw the pedal into oscillating feedback. I have had the first and second versions of the red pedal. I am not sure if they were at all different circuits, but I liked the second version better.
Other things to keep in mind before looking for this pedal. As far as I know, they are no longer in production. The blue pedals fetch around $1000 USD and the red around $400. This is also a very large and heavy pedal. It will take up a lot of room on your pedal board and probably make it twice as heavy. That being said, it's one of the best sounding delay pedals out there and it might very well be worth it to you.See less00
