So here is the high gain distortion Boss size, compact and robust metal housing, non-slip rubber, reliable switch, hatch for the batteries as Boss not super practical but in any case it is better to a power supply!
The technology used? Well it must be analog, since it is neither digital nor tube ...
The connection is classic format again Boss

Very easy to use: one level, a gain, a low (bass) and high (treble). It's even easier to use a DS-1 with only one button EQ since then we come more easily to the sound you want. I do not put that 9 just to quibble that there is no medium.
SOUND QUALITY
This is the heart of the matter of course.
I would say that the sound you get is a fairly standard high-gain distortion, but it is nonetheless an effective distortion. To compare with what I know, it looks to be midway between the DS-1 (for audio) and the Metal Zone (for settings) Boss. Except that a Metal Zone may be more accurate, and DS-1 will be unusable on some amps, while with the WSL I've never had a problem with the amps as I had with the DS- 1 (which was all rotten on MG100DFX on Ibanez Valbee, and even a bit of a JCM900).
I use an ESP with EMG active pickups, so most of the time I put the gain at 10-11am, but even with the gain in depth is still widely playable, it's even more fun. In fact it has quite a reserve side win.
On my guitar it sounds very Metal, on a Les Paul, it sounds exactly the same settings more Hard Rock, so it still meets well the sound of the guitar. By refining the settings as guitars, can be achieved impressive palm mute on any humbucker can be simple too, but I never play on easy)
That said it lacks a lot of personality, it's pretty neutral, and this is one small weak point, but given the category and price, it's no big deal.
OVERALL OPINION
I have a few months and I play very often and tested with a few amps, repeating.
Low and high settings very useful, can radically change the sound or adjust to different amps or guitars.
I like less the lack of personality, coupled with the lack of personality of my active pickups give something pretty cool but it's still perfect for the rhythm and metal.
Obviously I tried the DS-1, overdrives, the Crunchtone of line 6 (not sharp enough for my taste though versatile), and Soft Distortion WSL, which in passing is great but too soft for me.
Value for money's worth of super boss in 30% less, I paid € 49.
I do it again this choice with the experience of course, but it would have the chance to find one in its path, because obviously it is not very common in our music stores.See less10
