« In a small box? Incredible! »

Published on 08/18/11 at 11:51
18/08/11:

* What type of amplification (lamp, transistor ,...)?

Transistor, in a format microampli pedal.

* What is the power delivered?

The site says "It uses a tiny half watt amplifier IC chip". Then 0.5 watts. But this "chip" is not everything, it sounds good and strong enough to work at home (say it does not prove it, but to hear it confirmed).

* What connections?

IN and OUT Jack 6.35. No connectors for connection to a power supply, unfortunately, since it works with a 9V battery. That said, I'm trying to modify a base for me to connect an external power supply. Having planned the construction of a 2x12 cabinet, I branch at the moment of a passive speaker recovery. The manufacturer's website says it is surprised at the result when plugged into a 4x12 ... I want to believe, and just waiting to verify it.

* What are the settings, the effects? ...

Two knobs: Gain and volume. No switch since it is the IN jack which tightens the insertion of a cable. A green LED reminds the amp is on. Both knobs operate fully and accurately, and the sound palette is as wide operator.

8 / 10 due to the absence of external power jack.

UTILIZATION

18/08/11:

* The configuration is it simple?

Could not be more simple, when you know what make a gain and volume.

* Gets it easy to sound good?

You get exactly what you want by adjusting as desired.

* The manual is clear and sufficient? ...

Y was there only one in the Box ... remember ... I have not failed.

10/10 because RAS

SOUNDS

18/08/11:

* Should your style of music?

Absolutely. This is an ultra basic amp which restores what you give, the only limit genre about me is that I'm not in the metal and all that is most furious over this. The ride crystalline rock in the old style AC / DC or BOC, it is perfect.

* With what (s) guitar (s) / low (s) or effect (s) do you play?

With a Strat-like equipped with a set of Fender Custom Shop 69 pickups with a Fender Telecaster MIK I just change the tone knob and condenser to recover slamming really clear, and with an LP-like equipped a set of low-impedance humbuckers Langcaster coupled with a built-in OD.

* What kind of sound you get and with what settings ("crystalline", "bold ",....)?

It's going to respect the lens 69 Start pickups and those of the TV to the aggressiveness of the same or that Langcaster microphones (that said, these are very specific in terms of sound, offering the clarity of single-coils with the trunk and the thickness of humbuckers. I must soon put a notice on that, and invite you to go hang out on the website of the New Zealand manufacturer for demos).

Anything is possible with the "gain" of the Pico Amp: low-volume light, crunchy low volume, and the same thing by increasing the volume to its maximum with a real natural distortion while thoroughly. In addition, the amplifier meets the effects that sticks in (I booster / distortion, fuzz, delay, and everything is nickel).

Note that the amp does not have an EQ setting, I find it just possible that it is balanced on all the frequencies sent by electric guitar (never tried it with a bass. Well, that will I try, for that matter ...)

* What are the sounds you prefer, you hate?

I love them all, since there is disappointing and that the range is very wide.

9 / 10, because perfection does not exist in terms of sound, and everything is a matter of personal taste.

OVERALL OPINION

18/08/11:

* How long have you use it?

For two months, with a pleasure that is less than the life of the 9V battery when we like to push the volume (hence the next modification to add a base for external power supply).

* What is so special that you like most and least?

His concept OMO (all-le-pokey-Maousse-KostO). Something seemingly insignificant, ridiculous price, but makes a huge service. The downside is the power management. I do not understand why the manufacturer (an English architect absolutely charming and very available) did not provide a connection via the mains power supply from the start. Ca, it remains a mystery (English humor, perhaps ?...)

* Have you tried many other models before buying it?

No. I had thirty years ago, a 15-watt combo that my mother has done for the dump without my permission. Having returned to the guitar two years ago via a Variax and Pod XT Live, I had turned its back on the amplification of a traditional cul traditional skyscraper. There, I wanted to see what this little thing gave English before thinking of a head lamp 5 watts Harley Benton (in the future). I have seen as a last resort, but I realize it's a real beast perfectly effective and workable.

* How would you rate the quality / price?

Unbeatable. If it does not include the cost of replacing batteries in the balance sheet is a true gift this little trick. To work at home and record his songs, it perfectly meets my expectations. NB anyway, I got to 33 € with a promo on Ebay to which the designer himself facing me (great shopping, in addition to that, the Nigel), but otherwise the price must be the order of € 60 or just over.

* With experience, you do again this choice? ...

Without hesitation, and I do not know if he reads this opinion, but I thank AFien which is a rare, Sorgen, who had slipped three words on the Pico Amp in the thread of "amps that is unfamiliar or too little "and who managed to stir up my interest lead me to purchase.

Whenever possible, I put samples illustrating the possibilities offered by the Pico Amp at Mango Amplification who also heads and custom-made cabinets as shown on its site.

Last point: To find the Pico Amp on the website of Mango, select the "Products" then click the new page appears click the "more info" pad "accessories".

9 / 10 because so little thing that gives as much, it is excellent if not perfect.
