The Buffalo Technology DriveStation USB 3.0 is a hard drive that can be used for purposes across the board. I’ve got two 1 TeraByte versions of this hard drive for storing music and projects on, but solely use them for storage and don’t work off of them. These drives can be purchased in either 1 TB, 1.5 TB, or 2 TB drive sizes, and feature just a single USB jack for plugging it into your computer. They come with their own power supplies as well. As I said, I only use these drives for storing music and Pro Tools sessions and the like, rather than working off of them. So while I know that they are pretty quick in terms of copying and transforming information on and from them, I can’t say how well they work if you were running sessions of off them. My computer doesn’t currently support USB 3.0 as far as I know, so I believe it transfers information at 2.0 speed. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if I’m running a Pro Tools session from an external drive, I like to make sure I’m using a FireWire port. I wasn’t the one to pick out these drives for my use, as I have a job where they were given to me for storage purposes. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try to run sessions off of them, as I’m sure it would be fine, but again I’ve yet to try out this theory. In terms of price, you aren’t going to find too many sturdy drives like this for such a cheap price. I know that the price of hard drives has been dropping, but even so these are quite cheap considering the size and quality, so definitely check them out if you’re looking for some more hard drive storage.
