It is now five years since I use the Special 20, after testing the Seydel, Suzuki and other Hohner (classic Marine Band, Blues Harp).

With my experience, this harmonica is the ideal model to begin:
- Comfortable in mouth
- Easy for learning changes (I released my first 3 "with this model)
- Value / price (I've never broken slats)

It is perfect for me, it is not hard to play. Although I am not an expert on harmonicas, it has the advantage of being particularly handy to have a real comfort to play and not hurt the lips (my lips are fragile). One can very easily get some great changes. It also has a powerful sound but it is very simple to play muted because of its size by reducing the amount of air in his hands (I also have small hands). For nearly six months that I play on 20 specials. Before, I joueais on Lee Oskar / Hohner pro harp / navy band ... and my teacher who made me discovering.

Unfortunately I am not the opinion of Job. I have great ammertume towards hohner. I spent years searching for a harmonic that would suit me. One day I came across the spcial 20 and aa t love at first sight. For me as for many "sound and perfect comfort," What a magical harp. But now it is super fragile. I tried a lot of harmonicas before this one with golden melody, lee oscar, marine band, Promaster, pro harp ...
They all had good points, such as the golden melody for its ease of play, the Navy Band for its blues, Promaster to finish, etc.. But none of them had accumulated!
Special20 The harmonica is a bit simple but that it was very difficult to find fault. The sound is nice and well balanced, it is waterproof, good rule of thumb, the alterations do well, including overblows with the original settings. Maybe I had a bowl with the model I but for now it is the perfect harmonica!
Only fault limit, a design a little mat and grip a little less comfortable than a golden melody for example. To remedy this I replaced the covers with the covers 'turbo' that fit precisely on this model, guaranteed!
Since it is harmonious with me everywhere.
Therefore recommend for beginners as for experienced players!

The Hohner Special 20 is a harmonica/harp that comes in all of the Western keys. The one that I've used was in the standard key of C, which is probably the Special 20 that you'll see the most of out there. For a diatonic harmonica, this kind is definitely up there with the best of them. They seem to be quite popular, although I don't personally own one. I've got other harmonicas at home, but the Special 20 is one that I've used only on the other side of the glass as a recording engineer after a client brought it in to record with. While I can't speak to it's playability, the sounds of the Special 20 is superb. Of course it helped that the player was top notch, but I'd be hard pressed to hear another harmonica that surpassed the sound of this one if I could try it with the same player. Since I don't own this I can't shoot it out against the Hohner harmonicas that I have, but I do think it's a bit better than the BluesBand Hohner harmonica I have. I don't believe that they sell the Special 20's in a set, but you can definitely buy one for each key and even in a 7th cross harp position. The price of the Special 20 harmonicas is a bit more expensive than your average harmonica, as it's possible to get a harmonica for next to nothing, but to get one of quality like this one, it's going to cost a little bit more, which really isn't all that much since harmonicas are pretty cheap in general. Unless you're a pretty experienced player, the Special 20 might not be necessary, but if you're looking for a quality harmonica to record with and are an experienced player, the Hohner Special 20 definitely should be considered.

I play the harmonica for 20 years, I have tried many models ...
First of all I do not have to compare mattress materials (wood, plastic, metal). Me I think the plastic mattress offers great playing comfort, the ability to make quick phrasing and perfect sealing of providing precision tongue-blocking or puck. So far I try to stay very eclectic and I buy all kinds of harps.

SPECIAL Returning to 20, there are other harmonicas feature plastic mattress, so why SPECIAL 20?

- Take a Lee Oskar, which costs the same, precise game, accuracy, strength, finishing, Lee Oskar is higher, but ... It is very difficult to draw SPECIAL Overblow while 20 is just a good play for Harmo overblows. Advantage Special 20!

- Take a Golden Melody, superior in all respects SPECIAL 20 (including overblows) ... But it is impossible to put on a harmonica holder because of its rounded hood. Advantage Special 20!

- Now you can still ruin with a Cross or a Suzuki harp not widespread, but when you have broken along the way, what is the harmonica that you will find at the Milonga Zac corner ... A SPECIAL 20!

For all these reasons, and perhaps also to maintain a natural play on an imperfect instrument rather than to nab the bad automation on a super roll-lip, always have a Special 20 in your GEAR!
