"THE" Charley Versatile Studio Live!
Published on 08/01/13 at 10:02 (This content has been automatically translated from French)How long have you use it?
15 years
Have you tried many other models before buying it?
It was the gift of my 18 years ... I remember having a crush on the K / Z and a Paiste Signature Sound Edge. Zildjian finally won!
What is the particular feature you like best and least?
+: Accuracy! At all levels charley this is the most accurate that I was given to play, both in the foot with chopsticks. The sound is sharp but not too much with the top K which gives an excellent fit with Z. He was thinking, mix 2 types of cymbal sounds in total contrast, ranges and styles! The openings are very powerful and semi-open game is devastating but remaining perfectly controlled. I use a lot this cha…Read moreHow long have you use it?

The openings are very powerful and semi-open game is devastating but remaining perfectly controlled. I use a lot this charley studio and every time its engineers are very happy for the accuracy, sound and volume. I play Rock / Pop / Funk, it is excellent for that! He has beacoup under the hood and I'm sure it is suitable for metal. Jazz probably a little less as can be a little too steep?
-: Can be slightly powerful in config when oat bar above. In this case I prefer to use a Paiste 602 14 70's and Zildjian Special Recording in 12 for all small groups. I also find the top K a little hard under the baton but it is a matter of habit, and just what is a Charley it really takes to tame out the best.
How would you rate the quality / price?
Rather expensive as many Charley, but questioned its strength and there's no picture!
With experience, you do again this choice?
Yes, the studio I think it's really a reference!See less20 - ZavierxpPublished on 11/04/05 at 15:18 (This content has been automatically translated from French)Personally, I use the K / Z 13 ".

I use that Charley bought new a year ago. There was so much about myself and after having rented for a few concerts and festivals .... try it now!
I have been offered in OCCAZ to € 150 but in bad shape ...
Its Dimmension 13 "allows it to go anywhere (studio, stage) and have a high pitch that passes frequencies above the guitars, without being disagreeable.
The game is very nice, easy and quick rebound. The look of the Z which is the bottom cymbal is beautiful version of Brilliant. The K is on top finisher is mate, what a little odd, but the interest is elsewhere ...

The sound! THE sound! When closed strong, just closed or open / close it sounds extremely well. Half open position you can feel the limits of its size: too keen to raise the saucz, its harmonics are poorer in this position.
Similarly, the light weight of 13 K "requires some getting used to maintain a constant and regular opening half. The slightest change in opening means for miles!
If you find OCCAZ correct in less than € 180 go for it! It is more versatile than the 14 ". I have played both a charley as pleasant: in the Meinl Byzance 13".See less40 - sanjuroPublished on 10/10/09 at 13:17Zildjian K/Z hi hats are some of the best. They are very common, but I still feel like the K/Z combo produces a certain unique characteristic that I am always pleasantly surprised to hear. I have never owned a pair because I always had a set of K mastersounds which suit my needs. However, if I had to go back and get new hi hats, these would definitely be a contender. I have never met a drummer familar with K/Z's who didn't consider them to be at the top.

The mix of the K top and Z bottom produces qualities of both, but it still sounds mostly like a K (which is probably a good thing). The stick definition is definitely dark and smokey like a K, though the chick sounds significantly different to me. It is louder, and a bit brighter then the K's I have played. When playing quickly or busily on the top, the sound atriculates exceptionally well and it feels very responsive. I have only ever played the 13'' hats, but I am sure the 14''s are just as good if not better. The wash on these is also exceptional, again retaining mostly K characteristics but sounding a bit brighter and more cutting. The cymbals that these remind me of most are the A mastersounds, though these are definitely a superior cymbal pair.
There is nothing negative I can say about these cymbals. They are amazingly versatile, durable, and good looking. Even though they are bought together, it is still sort of cool to have a mixed hi hat pair like so many great players did in the past (Steve Gadd, for instance). Many cymbals are matched, so this is a drawback buying 2 single hi hats presents. Unless you have the time and resources to test dozens of combinations, these cymbals give you the versatility and uniqueness of a mixed pair of cymbals without the hassle of making them sound right. These hats are perfect for almost any kind of music, and aren't that expensive considering the value.See less00
