Epiphone The DotPublished on 06/24/01 at 15:00
I bought this guitar off the shelf at Mainely Music in Ellsworth, Maine. I paid $489 for it with Epiphone Hard Case and 90 degree Cord.

I really like this guitar. I have had a Gibson Les Paul guitar, and I really find that this guitar sounds Really, Really Nice. I realize that it is not the Gibson 335, but for about 1/4 of the price of a NEW Gibson 335, you just can't beat it in sound, playability, attractiveness, and price!!! The one I bought is Ebony with Chrome Hardware. It has sealed machine heads, Stop Bridge Tail Piece, 2 volume, tone knobs, and a 3 way toggle switch. The sound produced by this guitar is very nice and can really kick it up if given the opportunity.

I don't really like the knobs, nut, or toggle switch. The knobs, and toggle switch probably are the most noticeable for their alleged "cheapness". If Gibson would raise the price just a little, put on the Grover Machine Heads, a better quality nut, and put on the good pots and switch, this guitar would be every musicians dream unless you need to be the one that always has to pay for the advertising and "status" of the Gibson.

The construction and finish of the unit was near total perfection. I didn't find any faults with contruction or quality. The contruction is very solid with a wood block support running up the center of the guitar on the inside. The finish is very glossy. Very attractive guitar.

I would buy another one if something ever happend to this one. It is one BEAUTIFUL guitar! It plays and sounds like a dream. Very good sound. Stays in tune with no problem, as for the machine heads. I have had this guitar for about two months and it is everything I expected and more. I wouldn't have expected much more out of an actual Gibson! If you are completely loaded and your limo driver will drive you to the music store, get the Gibson, but for the rest of us, the EPIPHONE DOT 335 IS THE ONE FOR YOU!

Purchased this guitar from a Musician's Friend catalogue (on special). I paid $369US for the guitar.

I like the playability (low action) of this guitar for jazz chord-melody playing. Also the cherry finish with gold hardware. The Epiphone gold hardware doesn't hold up very well, but it sure looks good when it is new!

The guitar is heavy and best played sitting down. I would hate to have to carry it around my neck for a long set.

The guitar seems to be well made and I did not find any flaws in workmanship or finish.

Made in Asia, 2 vol, 2 tone, 3 position, tune o matic bridge, Grover keys,

Body and maple neck, 2 humbuckers Epiphone.

    UTILIZATION

Violin side, it is very hard for the price (300 euros nine).

When you see the value for money from competitors, Epiphone I put in my top 3. Gibson worthy of a handle, not flat but almost, it's really very close.
Only the hardware is less extensive, say it is simple.

    For the rest it's great.

    SOUNDS

The first connection, we see the limits of direct 2 Epiphone humbuckers onboard. It sings not of the masses.

I've pasted directly Gibson Burstbucker 2 (bridge type II side, type I handle side), and there is pure delight. These pickups are awesome. The guitar finally speaks, sings beautifully ca. Well its a classic rock on my Mesa Rect-o-verb, it became my number one guitar., And yet it is the cheapest of any I've had, the tenth in total.

    OVERALL OPINION

15 days of use, and I finally approach the sound that I love about this guitar, which competes heavily with the models change after gibson pickups.

A beautiful gift annif, thank you!!!!

    SOUNDS

It is suitable for blues, rock and jazz, but surely I've never really tried,
I m'tais amus him stick a big distortion and dribble ca not that what we might imagine.
Sound good but too fat distortion overdrive lgre say that you direct to the general Ramna amricain Blues.
In the clean sound is warm in the bass but lacks can be crystalline in the treble.
I was playing on a homemade amplifier lamp.
It was enough to make it to the limit of the gain saturation for large strokes mdiator history to have a crunch really not dgueu.

    OVERALL OPINION

    Gard I had 3-4 years
but I'm Sparer c'tait the guitar because of my first and he had no more useful.

I tried other models but the piphone Dot and the signature and BB King piphone caught my attention but the most particulirement than my first.

The particular feature that I liked the least likely that the microphones n'tait not powerful enough that we should always push the crunch for power.

    The Look Chuck Berry guaranteed!
With the exprience I can be directly taken MODEL BB King but silent when even 200 euros more expensive. But with the same budget is really a great guitar so I think I take it again.

    UTILIZATION

The handle is trs enjoyable and I was not possible in terms of problem jouabilit habitu DIFFERENT sleeves purposes as those of the hulk and ibanez acoustic, I adapted fairly quickly. Good Access in acute (although it is a semi-hollow). The ergonomics of gnrale fawn is quite good, the handle slides well, mcaniques (Grover) are prcises and Tune O Matic is a simplicity of rglage. The knobs are handled well. Nothing wrong.
The instrument is quite heavy: about 5 kg (not surprising at Gibson / Epiphone) prvoir a comfortable strap.

    SOUNDS

I play with a blues-rock record and it excels in this area, a pleasure, unlike what is said mics left me a good impression but not suitable for large register Metal saturations. The neck pickup is smooth and gentle, ideal for a blues session ... The bridge pickup is not recommended for clear sound and surprisingly quite effective saturation for good rock riffs (the output level is pretty lev I use this guitar with a Peavey Classic 30 amp all lights and a nice ring to it. The sound is mellow and bluesy wish. A versatile enough scratch with two humbuckers personalities Different.

    OVERALL OPINION

I tried several and I admit I MODELS adhr immediately on it. The overall opinion is positive since the average score on diffrent user reviews of sites (100 to 150), Harmony Central, Musicians Friend, ... is 8.5 / 10 and most people I had the opportunity to meet in trs are satisfied. A guitar with a good qualitprix therefore (between 470 and 490 in 2003). This is a guitar that we must test whether we like to play rock and blues records. I think the customize with new pickups to make it even better and she MRIT. The violin is good and trs no default construction (frets, varnish ,...). Question mcanique the Grover hold the road and no nuisance or dsaccordage strings that border. I have the Sunburst version, visually, it does not leave indiffrente. A good investment. I rounded the day on the lottery, I would purchase the home version ES335 Gibson ...

Ah, a double "cutaway" like this is rare thumb is placed at ease until the 15th box.
    Perfect ergonomics!
For the ca thickens a little, in fact the circuit is bad, the pickups n'on not good sensitivity that makes us push the amp and therefore the heat.
I tried a replica of the ES 335 with Samick and it sounded more like a 335 other than I now possess. The Samick has a sensitivity much higher than a Epiphone.

    SOUNDS

In fact for me the form ES 335 and an ideal form that fits many styles of music. Shreders refrain is not made to play for "taping" because of the strings are mounted at least 10 to 46.
I played with a Marshall JTM 30 ca sounded very "vintage".
His favorite sound is rather fat than crystal-clear, moreover, the real Gibson but the latter also a wider bandwidth, therefore, more fat and crystal-clear, the price is wider too.
You can not judge the sonnorités because they all have their place. It's like playing the Pink Floyd-with 335 in its fat and BB King with Ibanez in the treble.

    OVERALL OPINION

I played with for 4 years, the only concern and that the handle must often be adjusted. Personally, I'm that little is being occupied for that.
What I preferred about it is its double "cutaway" symmetrical which makes us squat above the 12th fret!
In Revenge, I preferred the less is its electrical part, his "humbeckers" in particular which lacks sensitivity.
The value for money is pretty decent even if I do not know exactly what is being done on the market in this price range.
If I had more than my real ES 335 cherry sunburst with a beautiful striped, hum hum it's been bitching eh? ... Yes, if I had more than my 335 and I find myself in Down and Out, (knock on wood), maybe I do it again this election especially since their prices down I think. I think about 450 Euros but when we used a pure guitar, you become choosy! In conclusion I would even say that the ES 335 is the most versatile guitars.

The sound for this price range is really good! It will not play metal (quoique. ..) but for the soft rock and melodic (Oasis Phone) and ranges of blues is the guitar sound and look!

    SOUNDS

I play pop rock that's perfect if you play the blues is even better!
I use it on an amp H & K Attax 80 and it makes it very well, the output level of the microphone is quite impressive ...

The better sustain, a real set neck, the humbuckers but not too fat, a body dug ... it vibrates into your body and it's magic!

    + 1 for the microphones, a + + to sustain

    OVERALL OPINION

I've had two months is really a super skyscraper!
No surprise, it's not Gibson, but the spike in flavor all its own ... grab you and you end up thirty years ago!
For the price range is the best I found ... perhaps a flaw: the abscence of cover and availability, but the problems of all gibson ...

Value for money: 9 / 10, bought 420 euros in Music gallery Evreux (27)

Ps: for more euros to set, make the effort to take it rather than the studio, it's still much better; mandatory cherry color, it's a 335!

While it has some pitfalls of (we will not play a Vai or Satriani above) but it makes good small solis (at Oasis, Led Zep ...) Access to acute is great, frankly, it's standing treat, thanks to the double cutaway, goes hand impeccable. This is certainly not ibanez but it was good! Anyway it's not really the same spirit, just see the mouth of two ... Anyway.
The guitar is a bit heavy for my taste, not very balanced, plus she has a fat ass.
But what form! This is its charm! The shape ES335, I love it! He easily forgives such defects.

    SOUNDS

This is a semi-hollow, but not limited to jazzeux ...
Blues, rock, punk, metal see (but uh not really clear the saturation)
But we have a good sound hot, I love it! I can only play on hollowbody Now, the other gives me the impression of being dead sticks!

    Edit

I love its shape, its look, its handle.
Before the acquisition, jai tried ibanez body half but it very promptly pa General Meeting well better, as they say! Finally, we must try!
I had a 400euros with a case so: money impeccable!
With the experience I would have perhaps waited a little assay is a more ibanez-end, but hey, it must be fun huh, and I did not like the colors of the ibanez, mine is black, and tears, I have nothing but compliments on her look!

    SOUNDS

    I use a GT5 pdalier or BR1200. Branch of AC60 = neutral

Live acoustic amp, you can play directly with a dose of reverb
We can make clean and interesting acoustic simulations with simulators.

For use, it is necessary to effect a smooth, limit acute trs that are rich for such distortions.

A little more complex for the funky style.

    Likes the Palm Muting

Personally I can not find it right on the trs handle length despite several attempts rglage

    OVERALL OPINION

For two years I have, I play almost every day (blues, rock, songs)

It is a bit cumbersome: it takes a little space to move the body.

I tried an ARIA MODEL of the same type.

It is a report QP excellent and I will certainly re-choice.

I did play a possessor of ES335 and for my part, I'm not as STRID diffrence when the quality of the original microphone from GIBSON ...

reversal (bonding angle of the handle) and the short scale makes it a comfortable handle playing the string tension is lower compared a tune Fender, especially if you mount the ties strong blues requires.

    SOUNDS

It is best suited for a big clean sound or in overdrive, the sound is typical low medium and becomes runny with the distortion, so do not add too much gain to not be a draft, which can have its charm, however, . Never, it gets an aggressive sound. The sound is bold, but not versatile trs. The micro serious sounds good in the register of his, the upper leaves of hunger, a little sour. Used a jcm 2000, not bad at all with the clean channel and a little gain, trs blues. no need to add more distortion, just a little reverb.

    OVERALL OPINION

I bought it in 1998, my beginners
for half a body, it is well made. Poque if I had more Neuros, I took the Sheraton plutt 2, much better over his neck and back three pices of pearl and abalone a better finish ( Difference of 100 euros I think the era).
I care not for a rock guitar in my arsenal (I Ramna more with it than with a fluorescent yellow IBZ row in front of my teacher zik, hinhinhin!)

    SOUNDS

For blues and good old rock and roll is really great! one suspects!
can play a lot of thing, provided you do not find the lens or the Fender precision ncessaire style "mtal" (a drool over and a feedback).

amp lights on, the power that giving surcrot fund rsonnance appears free of attacks and allows for clear channel cruncherle ... and it's all good!

With a bit of distortion, a rverbe and a tad of time limit, you can have fun playing with the feedback that comes quickly and we arrived with the master volume knob ...

Clearly, the microphone is not acute acid nazillard fairly rockab. With an overdrive, all the british blues is at your fingertips! it's great!

The cons for micro serious, clear, is a bit too soft ... the attack is too fast gum.
Against by with a little gain, we quickly the sound of the solo of "Sunshine of Your Love".

in any case, the sustain is good! One has the impression that the notes are linear and therefore fluids.

it's a guitar in his very vocal, guitar "singing"?

cost in "clean" on the track "I remember" or lead on "as is" on http://www.mymajorcompany.com/Artistes/tyell/

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 4 years.
I like the look, the fact that I can work on it without the need for forcment connect (thank you the cash) to hear something and then especially the large, well "vocal".

it is the only semi-hollow I've tried (apart from the Sheraton II, but it kif kif) ... her silent cell hairs in my budget!
I first t surprised by the size of the body (I played mainly on solid body) and it became an advantage parcqu'elle keeps your back straight when playing seated.

report quality price is excellent ... the guitar is beautiful, well finished, it sounds and gives no sign of weakness despite his four years in my pognes!

The problem is to find a bag (I did not say "tui") to transport ...

I do it again this choice without hsiter ... her (lead) is the complment IDAL my Fender (in rhythm).

I had the chance to try two identical to the store that day. Fortunately for that matter!
For the other DOT had a small defect at the binding at the junction of the handle. And the pickup selector a bit more temperamental traces of polish on the chrome on one / two places. Not to mention the sound was worse.

So my bill will reflect my Dot and the other that I could try.

    UTILIZATION

Great surprise, the handle is perfect for me. Being pro-hyper Fender used the sleeves of my Strats, I have been baffled by playing on the Epiphone. I found my bearings super fast! And that's hardly the case with other Epiphone and Gibson on which I had the opportunity to play. For example, the handle of the Sheraton repulses me! That of the Dot seems less wide - less big "stick" as the Sheraton. For someone just like me Fender in the world is significant.
The frets do not hang. It is easy to draw bends without significant detuning. The knobs work well with a progressive course. The mechanics seem OK

Again to my surprise, I find this rather light 335! May see more than my Start Plus USD. No imbalance. It is even more enjoyable to play while seated. Me to expect a heavy guitar like the Les Paul, it's a good surprise!

Access to acute is easy, at least almost as well as a Start.

Really about ease of use is a near flawless.

    SOUNDS

Already, I rather play Blues or Rock genre Pink Floyd / Rolling Stones and very occasionally metal (more for fun). This guitar is obviously intended use rather Rock'n'Roll and Blues (Chuck Berry, BB King, Clapton in the early stages have used or still use). It is of course recommended for metalheads ... is a semi-hollow, not a shred to Ibanez!

One recognizes the sound of a typical semi-hollow. This "clonk" in the attack of the notes and the warm sound. But this is not the sound of a real 335 ... Not that this guitar is totally incompetent, but it is restricted by the microphones. Because the microphones are drinking origins, but they are still true:

The bridge pickup to a good offense, quite incisive. It sounds good in overdrive for a well rock. But is a bit rough if you push the gain. But surprisingly, it still provides quite a bit with a large distortion. The output level is quite important for an Epiphone PAF. I blame him p'tit a lack of brightness and a lack of bass. So in summary for the bridge pickup, it holds water if one is not too demanding.
For the neck pickup, Jazz or Blues in use it works well. But no more. For higher gain, it's too fat and too much draft.

    From 21/12/08 EDIT:

I replaced the pickups with GFS Dream 180 and the nut by a GrapTech. I do not regret at all the change
The 335 is finally living! All the defects mentioned above are gone. Now I get the typical sound of a good semi-hollow 335 type. It's punchy, it's not drooling and it's very defined, yet very warm. Also, I added a split, and split as the Dream 180. In this case, the sound palette is very broad thanks to its single coil obtained after split - always keeping the sound warm and round the side of a typical semi-hollow but also "clear".
Similarly, the nut is a true original stew in which food plastoc sound, changing nut really unbridled guitar. Everything has become immediately more defined and better balanced. As the acoustic power much higher!

So my note on the sound reflects the origins of microphones. But with the new pickups, it's 10/10!

    OVERALL OPINION

This is a recent purchase. For a long time I was eyeing the side of a 335. I bought it for a different sound to complement my Strats. And I'm not at all disappointed. For the price (269 €), it is incredible to have a guitar as good. While I consider a change of microphones quickly, I think it is quite usable as it! A beginner will find his account as a pro willing to have a guitar with a good violin to lay the microphone of choice. For I am sure she will excel with good pickups (GFS or Gibson, for example). But this long to come across well over a DOT and that sounds good. For I repeat, store, both DOT did not sound as well as one another. I have not taken that sounded less (low less clear, less bright treble, its overall less dynamic) and the finish was not as good. So I suggest (if possible) to buy this guitar directly from in-store test, because as some confirmed, it is sometimes the lottery. This advice applies to any guitar, but especially in this price range ...

Compared to the Sheraton - comparison made systematically - the finish is as good. The hardware is identical. Only the finish is more "luxurious" on the Sheraton. But in my humble opinion, the violin is also generally good. The upgrade of the microphones is also interesting that the DOT on the Sheraton. Ultimately, it may be possible that quality control is more advanced on the Sheraton and it still remains to be seen ...
Also the color Cherry (335 color what!) Is available on the DOT!

The bridge is impeccable in my opinion but I am not a luthier. In contrast, seem mcaniques averages. They take the agreement for the moment, but I'm afraid of aging. We feel much diffrence in the quality from those of my Gibson LP.

    SOUNDS

This is where I am totally bleuff. Microphones books are not as bad as I expected. It sounds circular, ss dynamics is equilibrated in the clear on my peavey classic 30. On the micro serious lamps + the fund has given a round and warm, it is superb. It's even a little crunch with sustained attacks. It snaps in acute if you pull some strings at the bottom. It's really enjoyable. Playing more lightweight, we obtain a round and warm, ideal for the jazz.
Joint position, the sound is more neutral and can play more in the spirit electro acoustic (well, nothing EXAGRES either). Finally, there are a few of the nasal sound of micro acute CHARACTERISTICS gibson, with a little less dynamic when same.

When going on a sustained overdrive, the micro acute takes the advantage with a grain and warmth caratristique. Ideal for the rock of ZZ Top is powerful, bold, and the body brings a surplus of non ngligeable sustain. Personally, I love.

Of course, needless to say that if you are looking for a metallic sound, to be saturated, crystalline, go your way.

Dernire small note: I russi ringing my Marschall MG100DFX! If so, it's true. Well, should not expect miracles, but frankly the silent sound acceptable. This is to say what brings the cash in terms of roundness and warmth ...

    OVERALL OPINION

I have since before yesterday. I was able to compare with my gibson LP and my Fender Start Mex Classic Player 60. I wanted a guitar with a sound diffrent and frankly, I am well served. I think for the price would have a hard t get any better. The violin is really pretty and I think that by changing the pickups to the Gibson, sounding honestly could IDAL. APRS has piphone rest of the equipment level. Honntement, his cot is really good trs.
I tried a Yamaha AES620 home, and also a peavey MODEL. There was a grain but is was less characters, or too c'tait draft.

Frankly, I will talk a little more perspective, but what I would do this choice, frankly, without hsiter.
