Edwards LP98 LTS (Top Laquer Series)
Reference 98 is the new benchmark in Edwards, this is exactly the same model as the LP90.
First, the guitars I have, I had that tested or used as a reference for those who do not have a chance to test Edwards and so inclined:
- Vigier Excalibur Custom (guitar present)
- Epiphone LP Std SH2/SH4 (sold)
- Gibson LP Std Faded and Std (tested approx.15 min each)
- Fernandes Ravelle Elite (env.10min tested)
This guitar is made in Japan, a country renowned for the quality of luthiers and assemblies very qualitative in plants with large yields.
Edwards produces beautiful copies and copies LP models of the parent ESP. The subsidiary and the subsidiary Edwards high-end Navigator are reserved for single Japanese market. It is still possible to import, but according to some, it will not last and the next few months the export of Edwards should be banned.
Edwards's competitors, some are a little higher in quality: Greco, Tokai, Orville by Gibson. Some of these brands exist only on second-hand market.
Edwards on this, it is made in Japan.
Copy of a Gibson Les Paul:
- 22 boxes
- 2 humbuckers, Seymour Duncan SH1/SH4 here
- Mahogany body and neck
- Maple table, here is a beautiful flamed maple
- Here, the varnish is a Lacquer is a satin finish, better than the varnish present on the Faded and seems thicker than on the latter.
...
I wish the Mecas brand, type or Grover Kluson and stopbar / TonePros bridge.
This guitar would cost me about 750 €. I consider the ratio Q / P good to see the benefits. For that, I give it 8.
UTILIZATION
- Side handle, I find the size of a Gibson 60's and more like a 50's.
- Access to acute is torture but hey, why I have my Vigier I find still more "easy" to play, it is also used ... If I wanted a guitar with very good access to acute, I would not buy an LP. I bought this guitar sounds kind LP so I what I want.
- In terms of ergonomics, although it is heavy but well balanced. Impossible not to feel it on the shoulder. The body is much thicker than my Vigier, I have a small gene at the forearm, but it takes a little getting used to, like any guitar.
- For sound, although it is a LP-like, knobs and two pickups Volume and Tone dedicated.
Even if it's a copy, it's still an LP, with all the disadvantages that it has> 8
SOUNDS
The LP is, for me, the ultimate rock guitars, like the strata in their field.
Zik my style of choice is the Metal group, and good old rock and blues for fun or boeuffer.
Plug it into my Peavey Triple XXX, with occasionally a Xciter Aphex 1403 and a Boss RV3, this scraper gives me what I want, bluesy sound warm wishes known by lowering the neck pickup volume and tone to a more rock big rock on the bridge pickups.
Only regret for large Satus, the original bridge SH4 is a bit messy, but it remains in the mind LP and that's what I look again.
TonePort plugged in my JCM800 with a simulation, a baffle in Greenbacks or V30, it sounds really hell, and I find the sounds typical of Guns, Page ... > 9
OVERALL OPINION
I received this guitar a week ago.
It fits perfectly in the budget I had set and the type of sound desired.
It has for me a little more about the other: the satin and matte hardware that gives it a classy and not flashy
Perceived overall quality is very good.
On this side of perceived quality, I find over the Gibson LP Faded I had hands, this may also be due to the low satin varnish present on this series. Also, I found the nut paste and holes to place the bridge not very clear on Faded, again, the one I had in my hands, I do not generalize.
Compared to the Ravel (Model Made In China, there are apparently Made In Korea) I tested the quality of the nut paste was unacceptable for a guitar sold € 900 (€ 1,000 with the sustainer)
Compared to the Epiphone LP Std I had too: I found the differences in finish and sound are in favor of Edwards. It is usually better finished and sounds better defined than the Epiphone.
Ordered from Ishibashi, the guitar was delivered in 4 days and super secure packaging!
Totally excited about this guitar that meets my desires perfectly. > 8
This opinion is an opinion rather hot and will be completed later.
