ESP has made some fine budget friendly guitars that are highly influenced by Fender and Gibson guitars. ESP makes a lot of influential guitars that are pretty cheap comparatively to Fender Stratcasters or Gibson explorers or Gibson Les Paul guitars. Their body shapes are little bit different than the fenders in Gibson guitars but overall to pretty much the exact same thing. This guitar is a knock off of a Gibson Les Paul guitar. It has a map looking finish which gives it more of a metal look to it.

These are the eclipse guitars which is basically the ESP version of the Gibson Les Paul guitar. You may have seen this guitar from the lead singer from Metallica. He would use a similar guitar do this. The body is a mahogany wood as well as the neck. You do have an ebony fretboard which is a little bit different than most Les Paul's which using your Brose Woods fretboard. The binding on this guitar is a very vintage yellow or a vintage white that's been age which looks very cool on this guitar. Yet to solid EMG pickups which gives it a very good metal sound in this guitar.

UTILIZATION

The utilization of this guitar is very easy and very easy to understand. The neck is a pretty fast neck and comparatively to a Gibson Les Paul which uses a more chunk you're feeling neck. EMG pickups are very thick and full of town. There's an 81 in the bridge and 60 in the neck which is a great combination to the EMG guitars. You have 22 jumbo frets with black hardware which is a great macth to the rest of the guitar's design.

SOUNDS

Overall this is a great feeling and sounding guitar. It's a great guitar for someone using metal guitar sounds or a metal amplifier. The 81 Bridge pick up is a nice steak metal sounding pick up which is the one of the most highly used pick ups that EMG has ever created. It's very common pick up for most guitar music overall. It's doesn't sound that money when you use it in hiking situation that is why it is a very common pick up from metal guitar players to use a lot of saturation or distortion.

These guitars work well in any amp setting. I like them most with a high gain amp because of the metal sound and voicing that the pickups generally create. These are fantastic sounding guitars for the money and when you couple them with a good delay pedal and a high gain amp then you can get some hot rocking tones.

OVERALL OPINION


These guitars have been discontinued for a while so the use market is the only way to go for them at this point. I've seen him go for a little over $1000 on the user classified market. They have a different models and different shapes but most of the overall feeling and look is pretty much the same. ESP makes great guitars and they are at traditionally influenced off of Gibson and Fender guitars. This one obviously is off of the Gibson Les Paul guitar and so if you're looking for that type of guitar this is a great alternative and a much cheaper alternative as well.

UTILIZATION

the guitar is quite heavy, but what beautée. access to the last box is difficult compared to a shred guitar, but when you take a Les Paul the shred is not what is desired. the sound is excelling, even vacuum the guitar sounds great. EMG 81/60 combination can play a lot of style. The guitar does not limit this to the extreme style, it is the very nag has a very pop.

SOUNDS

Guitar agree very well with my different styles. I use it mainly with a peavey 6505 + and a Pod X3. I prefer my ESP to the different guitars I've had or tried. It is far better than Gibson in my opinion, ESP Les Paul style again by removing some negative elements (including the handle I think I n'affectionne Gibson è__é not, and the finishes of the same les paul price range). Unlike my old guitar tuning is perfect and the rest which is a very good thing.

OVERALL OPINION

The guitar is certainly expensive, but considering the quality of the beast, we do not regret. I would definitely do it again this election, and I'll play this guitar for many years to come without regrets.

This is the early version of the EC of Eclipse guitar. It has a more Les Paul like shape which is one of the reasons it is out of production. This was the cool finish they had at the time. Hetfield use to play these guitars alot. The DPS in the name stands for Deep Purple Stain. Its like a satin finish but dark like a poly finish. It also has yellowish binding to break it up. This is a full label ESP so it is made in Japan with essentially custom shop level quality. The guitar has a mahogany body with a maple top. It has a set neck mahogany neck with an ebony fretboard. The fretboard has 22 jumbo frets with ESP's flag inlays. The neck is nice and thin. The body and neck are fully bound with the yellowish gold binding. It has Gotoh locking tuners up top and a Gotoh tune-o-matic bridge. It has EMG pickups in it in a classic setup of an 81 in the bridge and a 60 in the neck. The controls are standard Les Paul style with a volume and tone for each pickup.

UTILIZATION

The satin finish on this guitar is very smooth and helps making playing very easy and fast. The neck is a bit thinner than that of a Gibson and the fretboard is flatter so this lets you get a nice easy action on the strings. The large frets also help this. The ebony fretboard is super smooth and feels good under your fingers. Locking tuners are something every guitar should have. Even without a tremolo locking tuners help you stay in tune better than normal tuners. Since this guitar has active EMG's you will need a 9v battery to operate them. ESP was smart and added a quick access battery compartment so you can change the battery without having to open up your main control cavity.

SOUNDS

This guitar has a classic metal tone with the EMG active pickups in it. the 81 and 60 set is a classic set that James Hetfield has used for decades up until very recently when his signature pickup set came out. This set provides you a great overall tone for both dirty and clean. The 81 in the bridge gives you a ripping metal tone. It has a high end grind that prevents your riffs from sounding muddy. If you down tune these pickups are great as well. This high end grind lets your notes cut through no matter how much distortion you have. The 60 in the neck compliments the 81 nicely. It is not a hot pickup like the 81 it is more of a clean bluesy pickup. Since the 81 does not clean up very well the 60 is there for your clean tones. If you want a neck pickup that is good for dirty stuff I recommend the 85. It is smoother than the 81 so it works well for the neck position.

OVERALL OPINION

If you can find one of these guitars they are a great deal. I think they go for around 1500 used. The newer Eclipse models have a different shape and control layout to them. ESP went away from the more traditional shape that this guitar has. The new models are good as well but if you want the more traditional shape this is the way to go. If you want a good metal Les Paul type guitar that can rip right out of the box ESP has some good offerings.
