The EC 400 is a typical Les Paul guitar for the form the body takes the shape of the Les Paul with some improvements in ergonomics (chamfer stomach and right forearm).
The body is "mahogany", a wood of the mahogany family, not too heavy. On mine which is finished in dark red transparent (see-thru black cherry in good French, beautiful by the way), we see that there are at least three parts constituting the body.
The top is flat on this model (the model uses the table curved AT-archtop-Gibson)
Be careful here not as maple top on a "real" LP, it's all Mahogany.
The handle is painted, semi crossing (neck thru), it is mahogany three parts. It adopts a profile between C and D, much thinner than a Les Paul, very comfortable pace "short".
The radius is smaller than Gibson.
The key is 24 frets rosewood inlaid with "flag" pearl, and the model name on the 12 th box (a bit redundant, then it's not a shit car), it is curved like a Les Paul.
The saddle is a earvana, meant to make the intonation of the strings, I'm fairly convinced of the usefulness of such a device but at least this one does not require a special acordeur So basically it is not annoying.
A creamy white binding sober and classy surrounds the neck and head.
The acastillage consists of mechanical grover, very sweet, and an easel-type les paul.
The pickups are two humbuckers EMG 81 in bridge and 60 in the handle, they are not splitables, it has a microphone volume and a general tone, and a 3 position switch, the intermediate position on the 2 pickups are in series.
It has a volume for each pickup and a general tone.
6 - the finishes are very clean (some defects on the binding of which more than a little red paint, but you really zyeuter closely), pickups excellent good ergononmie.
The only real black spot: the body into 3 parts, compared with a mahogany body guitar Auter in 2 parts you can feel the difference when we play unplugged, the sound has less body, is a little cramped.
Plsu of the "mahogany" has used aps all the same features as other mahogany (sveines the wood are not those of a classic mahogany), LTd devraitmieux play the transparency card and really tell us what this wood.
UTILIZATION
This guitar is light and balanced, it does not even tired playing time, even if the form is less comfortable Les Paul than a Strat, LTD has well thought out and the improvements we have here a very playable guitar.
The handle is very comfortable and access to the 22 th cargo is excellent, it twists slightly fingers, I say slightly, because access is good.
SOUNDS
I play in a register rather metal, fairly crude, and specifications of this guitar suit me. The EMG 81 in bridge is very precise saturation, sharp, harmonic singing, I was soon won over by this microphone.
I play in his clear preference in an intermediate position and the neck pickup. The 81 is only slightly sour to clean.
From the intermediate position it gains greatly in serious but still accurate, ditto in the neck position.
The Emg 60 is an excellent microphone, I love his character, round lens, it seems that the notes "bounce", it is excellent in its clear, it is a treat.
However the register of sounds available is limited due to the configuration of microphones.
But neither more nor less than any other guitar with 2 doubles and split-not (follow my eyes).
It is plugged into my Peavey Ultra 112 (combo lamps ancestor of XXX)
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for two years.
I chose this guitar because I love the Les Paul shape in aesthetic but I find it almost unplayable and very heavy (especially Beacoup too expensive).
I like the finish of this simple model (clear lacquer) sfinitions the "modern" present everywhere with the brilliant and beautiful colored varnishes on veneers of flamed maple 2 mm monstrous make me puke, matter of taste.
The detail that bothers me is the handle 24 cases: it looks like it's a selling point on these mid-range guitars, it seems to have more of a guitar with 22 frets ... I just personally prefer by far a handle 22 boxes, and the neck pickup is less and closer to the bridge, which is more convenient (and purists say the best for her).
The EMG 81 is excellent in distortion, but not super comfortable with a clean sound (sound a little sour, at least in bridge position, a duet with the 60 but it offers very good sound), it must know when to acquire a guitar equipped with the microphone (it's a no-compromise solution, which suits me without hesitation, a sound I can not find with other microphones).
If the body was in two parts with a better quality wood, this guitar would be perfect.
