I got this little mama from my first big purchase off eBay, and I paid 500 Australian for it second hand with a Gator hardcase. I wanted to move into progressive rock and I don't think proggies know 4-string basses exist.

The bass and hardcase were good as new when I got them, and I couldn't believe I'd got them for the price I paid.
Well, beauty's only skin deep, so I guess you can call me a shallow, superficial prick whom you never want to see again, no matter how much I call.
Aww, now I feel bad.
But yeah, this thing looks sleek as, and the solid Luthite body makes it weigh as much as a small horse. (Or a very large dog, if you're so inclined). Some might count this as a negative, but I hate the feeling of playing a guitar made of balsa wood.
The active pickups combined with high, mid and low tonal control knobs make for an amazing diversity of sound. I can sound like an upright bass, a church bell, and even a small horse! (Ok, no more animals).
The strings are fairly light, and the action nice n low, and the root of the neck angles off at the higher strings to allow more room for popping (the strings, you pervert).

Probably the only thing I'd whinge about is the tuners aren't the best - I have to retune before every time I play. Oh yeah, and this bass is going to cost me thouands of dollars to buy a stack to do it justice.

The Ergodyne is INDESTRUCTIBLE. This, and cockroaches, are the only things that will survive a global nuclear exchange. (So expect to see a lot of all-bass mutant roach bands if the world stage gets a little too tense).
For the price I paid, this bass easily surpasses all expectations (except the tuning system, whihc I mentioned above). The low B string is a little slacker than it might be, but you have to go up to Warwicks and Spectors to find that sort of feel.

So in short, the EDB 650 Ergodyne bass is excellent value for money. Versatile sound, elegant look, and you could drive a semitrailer (or small horse) over it. Wouldn't part with this bass for almost anything. (And I've plasyed it's successor, the EDA series, and I think it's a step backwards). If you're looking for a first five-string and you don't have a couple of grand to splash, go with this.

I got this bass as a Christmas present from my wife. I played bass several years but had to sell my other one to pay bills. She paid $300 for this bass. She got it from a classified add on a website she found

This bass has Very good sound. You can get a very different sound just from the bass alone. By balancing the pickups from neck to bridge and back, you can go from very low bottom to very high end that almost hurts if the mid, bass and treb are set incorrectly. The body allows a lot of resonance so much so that I play without an amp for practice most of the time and don't have a problem hearing myself play. I like the body cutout beneath the D & G strings for slapping, the input jack in on the front of the body and angled out to reduce bumping of the chord. It stays consistantly in tune and the neck is fast when you set the action to your liking.

The strap holder pegs were getting a little loose but that was remedied by longer screws. No biggie there. & the strings buzz a little on certain frets but you can't hear it when plugged in.

Other people have mentioned that it's heavy, but I've played it for several hours on end and have had no problems dealing with it's weight.

The bass is SOLID! It tends to have an air of indestructability about it but I'm not ready to test that theory. I was usually very delicate with my other bass, but I don't feel the need to coddle this one. I have a lot of faith in it.

It's a damn good bass as far as I'm concerned. Between the bass, my EQ-20 and Marshall head, I don't think there's much I can't do with the sound. I used to struggle with sound issues on my old bass, and for once, I'm happy with my sound. Many of you will know how long the quest for good sound can take. I'm even able to get a good woody tone without and amp modeler and that's tuff to do with some WOOD basses! A great bass for the price.

I live in germany in Aachen and it´s a fucked up town to get any kind of instruments. ( we only have two little stores with about 4 to 10 models to buy)
As I´ve seen the edb in the catalouge I´ve known: that´s the bass I want. But from this moment on it tooks 8!!! month until I was able to play one, but now i´m happy that´I´ve wait this long time. I´ve played it up to an hour and than I´ve given out the money (630 €) with a smile because this bass is worth.

I played in different bands, from Emo-Mosh
over hardcore to melodicpunkrock and this bass fits all the sounds I need. Only a short turn at the knobs and I can change the tone from a warm deep basstone into a cold metallic and hard sound - absolutely great. Also the bass is very heavy if you put it around but when I wear it it´s so great balanced that I could forget it. Additionally this bass looks great. A friend says it best: this bass is hardcore!
and that´s all I want. Especially the low B is wonderful without flopping or something else, it gives the "boom" to my music ))
Also it works great with the Ibanez PD7 Bassoverdrive effectpedal even at higher volumes. I can´t slap at any basses I´ve played before but on this I´m the king!

The quality of this bass is really good, but after all I´ve still paid enough that I could expect that. Another great thing was that it came with elexir strings which works superb with this bass ( and now goes superb on my purse- but I love them) And let me tell you, it´s very resistant against all kind of damage. Whe´n I´m on stage I lokk like a crazy idiot. I throw my bass around me jumps up and down go stagediving and so on and of course my bass looks like this, but all the other bassmachines I´ve played befor wouldn`t take this torture as great as this one. Sometimes I think that I could punch it with all my power against a wall and all that goes bad would be the wall and my shoulder but not this bass.At the end I´ll tell you that I tune my bass every 2 month but it´s still enough because it stays in tune all the time.

After all I can say that this is "the bass" for me, of course I´ve read other reviews, where people hate this bass, but for me it´s the best I´ve could find. Test it, you´ll see what I mean!

24 frets, active pickups, the handle slides well, the body is pleasant! The only downside, the pr c slap! c pr shooting sometimes hard to wait for the rope in the middle (pr me as the agreement, corresponds to the ca)!

UTILIZATION

Access to acute is easy, and the sound is loud jams, which happens on some bass! it is a reasonable weight! Finally, the user must see! I have a friend, he finds it heavy, ms c a weakling! Finally, qd same, after 3 hours on the shoulder, it was a little sore! otherwise pr sound settings, nothing to say! 5 knobs: high, medium, low, volume and balance and gnral! pr shape, it's going, she is very pretty, I think!

SOUNDS

Bah, I play regularly in the metal, and frankly, it provides! ms I play punk, and rock, and pr + snapping sound, no pb! like to play reggae with friends, qq ptits settings, and voila! Finally, the black knobs st, and the body is gray! c dc gallery sometimes find the levels of knobs

OVERALL OPINION

Ben, I use it for 2 months! I know, it is not longtps, ms I pass the GST change the sounds with a good bass player! Moreover, he is convinced he will buy the EDB 605, EDC 715 or! like this, ibanez, whatever people may say, no c shit! ca has a sound from, of course, ms he pleases! most c! frankly, +, 600, ca va! agree, is the spitting, you're not disappointed ms! in +, must be ordered! in France, I would have to wait two months, almost 3, while in Belgium, 10d, the silent order, received, paid! Manufacturing in Holland, c pr ca! and frankly, if CTA again, I would do it again! I am frankly disappointed that no bass! I highly recommend !!!!!

UTILIZATION

The 24 frets are good practices with a trs Access in treble. The sound is clean and versatile trs.

SOUNDS

As I said, the sound is versatile all rglages are possible, the big bass in the dub reggae mtal, to slap her a lot. You just have to head that it is not versatile color for a Fender bass or other of this style is not diffrent forcment worse.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for two years, my Premire "real" BASSS and I'm not. I have many styles DIFFERENT jou with, and this combines the versatility of a price for a 5 string honnte make a really good investment. I would do this choice with his eyes closed.
