for use with other software Cubase is kif kif noted that in cubase can do different configuration which can be handy. implementation is fast (for what takes the time to read the manual it helps to understand the subtleties of its implementation in a DAW control surface).
Assigned to the knobs your can for example volumes on all eight channels x 4 or eq settings on your notes or changes to an instrument or whatever you want to control an external instrument even.
The Q / P is very well just be careful with the USB connection, which seems fragile.
