Swar Systems has announced the release of Tanpura Droid, a new free App for the Android operating system.
Tanpura Droid is the software version of a Tanpura, this sitar-like instrument used in Indian classical music to play a drone sound throughout a musical performance.
Swar Systems says they are trying to port iShala to the Android platform (it’s already available for iOS – iPhone / iPad / iPod), but so far the sound frameworks are not stable enough to guarantee a perfect sequencing of the rhythmic and melodic loops.
They say they’re monitoring the release of new Android versions with attention and hope to release more complete versions of the software on this nascent platform.
