Gretsch G6131 Malcolm Young 2

Gretsch G6131MY Malcolm Young IIPublished on 05/24/04 at 15:00
I bought it in sound control in glasgow for £1399

I like everything about this Guitar. The sound is great, it has such a classic look and is a replica of Malcolm Young's.

The sound is brilliant. There is no crackles or interference and it has the essence of malcolm young's. If you play this on a marshall tube amp, it will sound exactly like Malcolm's trademark axe

Another good thing is the weight distribution is perfect.

There is nothing to dislike.

The guitar is made with a nice plain wood top (I don't know what kind of wood).

On the sides and the back is a beautiful chocolate brown colour. You see your face in it.

You can feel and see the quality in this guitar and pictures do it no justice. Also, it has Malcolm's signature on the trussrod cover.

Another good feature is that it has unscrewable strap holders, these straps will not come off.

This is not for the new generation of people who seem to think that the best guitar's are the one's that could slay a dragon, this is a true classic.

Best used with a marshall tube amp.

I could not ask for a better Guitar in my price range. Gretsch aren't exactly the most popular guitars with people my age (17) but My next guitar will certainly be gretsch. That or maybe the angus young sg

The handle of 43.5 mm with light radius and medium frets is very comfortable in the standard major brands
When access to the bottom of the handle, the double notch being very pronounced, there is no problèmes.Il are just a balance problem on this guitar, picnic round nose but this problem can be resolved by changing the position of tether strap button to reposition the heel of the neck

SOUNDS

I play Rock group directory 70 'therefore looking for a vintage sound and there is great here because Filter'Tron are there to ensure compliance with its own brand and its origins.
The guitar is a solid body dug so we end up with a hybrid sound result with limited sustain.

The interest is on the combination of micro and tones with clear sound unusual that goes without acute acid via the "twang" sound muffled Jazz. In fact 9 combinations are aggregated with 2 switches. Forget his Strat or Gibson, it's Gretsch and it's good!

For crunch and various saturations, there must be taken to choose the pedal to meet the sound of the guitar and keep the nuances of different combinations knowing that they will be much less readable in the clear. On knowing that the more we will saturate more shades just disappear, not surprising.

OVERALL OPINION

I'm not a fan of the current rock "alternative - continuous" so the Young signing did not influence my choice. I wanted something other than a Les Paul or a Strat with a budget that would allow me to choose one or the other of the two models mentioned.
What made me crack is fabulous clear sound and then the original form. Moreover mine is red lacquered splendor.
In crunch is powerful and precise (but depends pedals used) for saturations, I do not comment because I do not use it but the pickups and almost full body shall ensure without problems.

Gretsch past led by Fender Guitars manufactures its "standard" in Japan.

Mahogany body dug resonance chambers
Natural maple table
Mahogany neck
Ebony
22 frets + hoop "Zero" instead of the saddle
2 microphones HS FilterTron
Wraparound Badass bridge
1 volume neck
One volume Bridge
1 volume General
A 3-position switch microphone
1 3-Position Tone Switch

The level of finish is exceptional.

UTILIZATION

The handle is a delight: not too thick so old LP or too thin style Ibanez.

The game is total comfort because this guitar is extremely light (cavities and quality mahogany require). Access to treble is perfect, the feel of paint as well.

SOUNDS

The sound is typical of Gretsch: banging without being too bright, a twangg of good quality clean sound.
In his saturated color is less clear and it is the amp that makes the difference.

This instrument can do everything the big rock varieties. For high saturations microphones whose output level is relatively low show their limits.

I use it in a head JMP 1959, JCM 2000 DSL 100 or a Peavey Windsor: but happiness! I wanted the sound of Malclom Young: I! Finger on the other hand ... ;-)

OVERALL OPINION

I own this model for 18 months and is the same pleasure at every concert!
I dreamed of this model for 30 years and have done is very satisfying.

I have a G1910 and G1921 I played on, Hamer SATF, LP ... Either they do not come out of the closet, or I've sold ...

I like its looks, its comfort, lightness, its sounds, its versatility

Like least: nothing! Or maybe the price ....
The quality / price ratio is perfect. For many years I did not understand what could motivate such a price for this model. I understand now that the quality of materials, construction and fittings require a high price.
