Published on 04/15/03 at 15:00I bought this amp from American Music Supply on the internet for $200, $10 tax and shipping was free (ground delivery). I needed a higher watt amp for jamming and playing a church. I have been looking at reviews on this site for a while which gave me a good idea on amp choices. For the price and what you get for it Behringer seemed the best choice. I saved about $150 from what I was going to buy which was a Fender Princeton DSP 65. For price I would give it a 5. Musicians friend had it for the same price. I guess I was looking at the AMS catalog at the time of purchase.
The clean channel is very crisp and clear. My fender sounds great through it. The many effects are neat too once you know how to adjust it to get your sound. I was surprised at the many different types of effects came with it and the sound that I got. The middle for the EQ really seems to bring out what I lack in single coils.
Even though I read all the other reviews on this amp I found out for myself what they were talking about; The drive channel is a waste. I use a DODFX7 guitar processor and a turbo tube screamer which provide plenty of overdrive and distortion but I like the change in tone that I get from each channel. When you swith onto the channel it sounds like a flanger reverb hi pitch weird sound. Can't really be described. The morphing control only makes matters worse. The midboost only works on the drive channel so I just keep it on the clean channel. Also, the effects use is different than any amp I've ever tried or used. Instead of like 1-25 or 50-100 the changing knob is 1-63. C'mon guys. Maybe it's a German thing.
I've moved this around twice and seems very well made and not as heavy as other twin amps. I've only had it for a week but all the knobs turn very well and the amp itself looks pretty cool. Many compliments from friends. The Jensen speakers do look exposed though in the back and the wires connected are not as covered as I thought they would be.
For $200 it was definitely worth for someone like myself with a limited income But if you have the money I would definitely go for a Fender. Like I said earlier I wanted a Fender Princeton DSP amp but needed $150 more. The effects are pretty cool even though it's not top of the line. If this amp had a seperate reverb control and a decent drive channel then it would be a top of the line amp. Still you save money and the clean channel is good so what can you say? I would recommend to Behringer to sell their amps in more stores like Guitar Center. I believe they would get more business. All in all, for $200 bucks nothing compares to it in it's price range.
