Running Kontakt, Absynth etc from external SSD

Hi,
did anybody tried running Kontakt from external SSD on public machines like university computers? I was thinking about investing in Samsung T5, installing all the instruments and libraries on it and use it as a portable studio - plug and play, whether at home or working at uni.
Would it affect performance to store Kontakt and its libraries on same SSD?
Can I tell Pro Tools that I want it to use different installation of Kontakt, the one from external SSD, not the one installed on internal SSD?
