« Double pedal saturation Soldano / clean boost very effective »
Published on 08/05/12 at 02:51This is a double pedal (clean boost - distortion) with therefore two effects turned on and off separately.
Saturation is simulated that of a SOLDANO (hence the name pretty well found SLOstrotion)
Analog.
Standard power supply (9 V)
I love having both saturation and a clean boost (himself adjustable intensity) that can enable or disable the foot.
UTILIZATION
All important settings are there: three-band EQ, gain, crunch switch / overdrive.
On this point the pedal, however, differs quite markedly from the competition (21 tech character sets) the first slostortion has no equivalent to the volume pot "character" found on analog simulation tech 21. Versatility is less marked.
Moreover, if the equalization SLOstrotion is quite effective, it is less than 21 character sets of Tech.
In fact if SLOstortion first appears as an additional character line that emulates serial (beautifully) many Soldano amp but not, in practice it is not really the case: the unique knob "character" is does not have the possibilty to have a clean Soldano.
So it's more a pedal overdrive / distortion that amp simulation.
Against by the presence of a clean boost brings a real plus.
SOUND QUALITY
The sound quality is excellent, although in this price range we do not expect less.
I play guitar equipped with a simple microphone (seymour duncan p-90) and another with double micro (Airzone marzio Di), the pedal sounds in both cases without significant preference.
This is logical since in fact the sound SOLDANO is known to be halfway between vintage and modern.
Note, however, a slight lack of bass that can be corrected with equalization, generally favors the pedal up spectrum (medium and high).
The sound quality is very good but due to its side "hybrid" mid-modern mid-vintage pedal can compete in a vintage style with Mudhoney (T-rex) combined with micro single or in a more modern style with the Character series california préboostée tube screamer with a double and micro.
OVERALL OPINION
In the end I keep this pedal on my pedalboard for the very practical side of clean boost can be activated at the foot allowing for small adjustments on the fly and the sound that is good with all my guitars.
In almost (this is obviously not a distortion to play the big metal ...) it sounds all styles.
Its drawback is that it is not, in my view, the best or one of the very best pedals in a particular style.
The grain of this pedal gives an interesting versatility but the downside is this versatility that keeps it from being the ultimate pedal to play rock vintage or modern.
