« Boss OS-2 Overdrive / Distortion »
Published on 01/18/10 at 15:00This is Boss' overdrive/distortion pedal. It is a single pedal with two effects. It is in the typical boss indestructible cage. I am a gigging guitarist in Nashville.
I do not own this pedal, it was sold to our bands rhythm guitarist at guitar center. Our rhythm guitarist was buying his first rig amp and all. They assured him this was a fantastic pedal. He paid around $90 including tax.
The distortion part of this pedal is good. It gives a nice range of distortion from thick and rich to brash metal.
As far as the overdrive part of this pedal is concerned, it failed miserably. After helping him try to tweak the dials every way possible, I could not get an overdrive sound out of it. I spent a couple hours with this pedal to no avail. I could only achieve distortion sounds which as I said above, it does quite well.
I have never had a problem with Boss. Construction is solid and they seem to hold up well.
This is a distortion pedal and not an overdrive pedal. I quickly convinced him to take this pedal back and get a real overdrive pedal. If you are looking for a distortion pedal you would be much better off buying the DS-1 pedal as it is also a good distortion only pedal and you can pick it up for less than half of what the OS-2 will set you back. The best bet would be to get the DS-1 and an SD-1. You would have two pedals, but also two separate sounds and still be about the same price as the single OS-2.
