Mad Professor's Sweet Honey Overdrive is a guitar pedal that I've got experience using inside the recording studio. A little while back I did a recording session with a guitar playing friend of mine who had a few different Mad Professor pedals, including the Sweet Honey Overdrive. The pedal has a standard make up, with a 1/4" input and output and power requirements from a nine volt supply. It isn't rack mountable in any way as it's a stomp box.

UTILIZATION

The set up of the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive is really very simple. It's got the same basic make up that you'd expect from most overdrive and distortion pedals out there, with parameters for volume, drive, and focus, the latter of which is a unique control for leveling out EQ and overall dynamics. It's a unique parameter that takes a minute of playing with to get used to, but is one that is really useful. I haven't had a need to check out the manual for the Sweet Honey Overdrive.

SOUND QUALITY

The overall tone of the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive is nothing short of outstanding. It's perfect for getting a little boost or overdrive to your guitar, but also sounds especially cool when you use it with an already distorted amplifier. You can push the level of overdrive up a good amount if you want, but it's definitely not the ideal type of pedal for getting raw distortion. Rather, it's best for getting a cleaner and more defined sort of overdrive sound. I loved using it for getting crunchy rhythm parts, as it was the go to pedal for getting this type of sound throughout the session.

OVERALL OPINION

While a bit expensive, the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive is a top tier pedal that is designed for experienced players looking to get a top notch lighter overdrive tone. For those who can't afford this, Mad Professor has kindly issued out PCB versions of their pedals that are about half the price. I personally haven't used this, but I'm sure it sounds pretty close and you get a very considerable savings. I'd highly recommend the Sweet Honey Overdrive for anyone interested in a truly great sounding overdrive pedal for guitar.
