A basic a/b box!
Published on 06/20/12 at 19:23The DOD 270 is a basic a/b for all guitar and other mono-signal applications. Depending on how you use it, it has two inputs (A and B) and one output (COM), or it has two outputs (A and B) and one input (COM). For most users, you would use the latter. For example, a guitar signal would come into the COM port, and you can connect the A and B ports to two separate guitar amplifiers, and compare their sounds with the a/b function by pressing on the single footswitch on the device.
The DOD 270 is a simple box, and it simply does it's job. DOD is not known for making particularly quality products, but for something like an a/b box, DOD does a pretty good job here. The footswitch is solid,...…

The DOD 270 is a simple box, and it simply does it's job. DOD is not known for making particularly quality products, but for something like an a/b box, DOD does a pretty good job here. The footswitch is solid, and the 1/4" guitar connections are solid. I do wish the connectors were positioned differently on the box, as having a cable coming out of three different sides of the unit can quickly make a cable mess. I would've preferred the com port to be on the right side, and the a/b ports to be on the left side.
It's hard to describe the sound quality of an a/b box, but I've had no problems with noise, signal artifacts, signal degradation, or any other relevant problems. There are no noise spikes when the a/b switching is activated.
Another great thing about this pedal: no power is required. It is completely passive, as it should be, and functions just as well as any active pedal could. Overall, the DOD 270 is a simple, durable a/b box that is perfect for switching between two amplifiers, or for switching between two guitars. Be sure to pick up either the grey version or the blue version today, if you need such a box!

The DOD 207 A-B Box is a guitar foot pedal that allows you to send the signal from your guitar to two separate outputs and gives you the ability to choose between the two of them. It is really designed for guitarists who want to have two different amps up and once and switch back and forth between them. It has a two 1/4 inch outputs for the amps and a 1/4 inch input for your guitar. It doesn't require any type of power if I'm not mistaken and is not rackable as it is a stomp box.

The configuration of the DOD 207 A-B Box is very easy to follow, with no parameters or control settings necessary. Simply plug your guitar signal into the input and send the outputs to whatever amps or other destinations you would like to send it to. I don't have a manual for the DOD 207 A-B Box, but it is so easy to use and there is no manual necessary at all.
Since the DOD 207 A-B Box doesn't really do any signal processing, it is tough to say if the sound quality of the pedal is good or not, but this pedal will not kill your signal at all when your set up is using it. I usually plug my Fender Strat and effects into the input and send this to a '76 Fender Twin Reverb and an Orange Thunderverb amp and choose between the two depending on what type of sound I am going for.
I've been using the DOD 207 A-B Box for about five years and it has served me well for the purpose that I use it for. While I don't use it all the time, when I need an A-B box this does the job well without hurting my tone. I got this pedal for free so I don't really know the price that they would go for, but I can imagine they would be pretty cheap used or new. If you are looking for an A-B box for live shows or otherwise, the DOD 207 A-B Box is a perfect choice.
