The Wall Street Journal confirmed the rumors, Pioneer DJ will indeed be sold to the US investment fund KKR.
KKR & Co (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts) is an investment company that will put on the table 550 millions of US dollars to become the new owner of Pioneer DJ. The announcement was made one week after Pioneer announced that they are also selling their commercial audio division to Onkyo Corporation and is planning to focus on the car market.
After reigning on the professional DJ market for decades, Pioneer will however retain a share of 15% in the DJ department, and the brand will still be used on the products. KKR said they will work with the current Pioneer DJ teams in order to develop the activity.
