Published on 12/27/15 at 13:10I seized the opportunity of the last Black Friday sales to get this amp sim.
I use it on a MacBook Pro i5, 16GB RAM, OSX 10.11.
It installs smoothly, the license activation file has to be imported to deactivate the demo mode and use the software with no restriction.
It requires little CPU resources.
It's all easy to understand:
3 amps to choose from (tube, solid state or clean), each with 2 channels, clean or lead.
Settings are very usual: gain, low, mid, high, presence and volume.
There's also a (spring) reverb and a tremolo effect.

A third-party cab IR can also be loaded
Add a noisegate, the (very useful) A/B feature, and a standalone mode.
In a nutshell, I consider it one of the best virtual amps for clean sounds (very Fender-like), and I've tried most of the best-known amp sims available (either in paid versions, demos or freewares). It takes a bit of tweaking to find the right settings but for a good clean sound (for jazz, for instance), I couldn't find another amp that would suit me as well.
Crunch sounds can be nice, but I haven't spent much time on them.
For overdriven sounds, it's hard to say, I don't have a wall-of-sound-dedicated guitar
Pros: superb clean sounds, standalone mode, A/B function, tremolo with BPM sync, IR cab loader, settings efficiency (EQ, mic positions).
Cons: the reverb (nice to have but not high-quality), and the lack of a tuner.
Until then, I had been satisfied using good freewares (LePou, Ignite amps), but I was still looking for something different for clean sounds, especially in the treble and high-mids.
With Vermilion, I finally found this sound, warm and still accurate in the high-mids and highs.
Even for its full price, it's really great, some of their competitors don't do better (and sometimes not even as good) for two or three times the price.See less00
