The Voxengo Tube Amp is an audio effect VST that can be run as a AU too. It has a drive knob, bias knob, mode knob and out gain knob. This plug in is very easy to use and it is very light on my CPU. It is also a freeware and can be downloaded directly from the Voxengo website and it will only take a few minutes to download. The Tube Amp has a -6 DB low pass filter built into it and switchable saturation.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

Installing Tube Amp was very simple, it will work with just about any DAW and it is compatible with both Mac operating systems and PC operating systems. It allows up to 8 times oversampling and additional output saturation stage all with zero processing latency. I love this little VST plug in because if you know how to use it right it will give you all sorts of cool sounds to work with.

OVERALL OPINION

The Tube Amp does not use much CPU when running it, I even run it multiple times simultaneously and it has never crashed or gave me any issues. I have not seen manual for it and I don’t think they have one available which is ok because there are hint messages within the application, so that it can show you how to work with it as you go without needing to ready a bunch of paragraphs in a manual.
Being that this VST is a freeware plug in I recommend getting it right away. If you decide it is not for you later on then you can always uninstall it. I have not seen any updates for it since I purchased it over a year ago. One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that you download the right version of it because it is easy to download the wrong one. I download the Windows version in 64 bit and needed to download the one for Windows 32 bit. So at first I thought I was not going to work until I emailed them and they sent me the proper link to download the right version.

OVERALL OPINION

Tubeamp is a saturator that acts like a vacuum tube.

I use it for 6 months. This is a killer with no name. In my humble opinion, in the plugins CATEGORY "rchauffeurs" is the best.

Let me explain:

1. It is a freeware. Whereas advantage over competitors who grsillent for € 200.

2. It is unknown, or virtually (for now ...). Besides, I'm tonn be the first to post a notice.

3. The sound is very enjoyable, thanks to progressive waveshaping trs and SETTING THE asymtrie (paramtre "bias").
With Tubeamp, no bees, no grsillement, no crtage wild!
A 0% bias, the saturation is symtrique, odd harmonics are gnres, 100%, only even harmonics are gnres thanks saturation asymtrique ; between the two, well it's a bit of both.
Harmonics are always low-order (2, 3, 4). The harmonics appear only when levs Exceeds 24 dB of gain so (...) There's room for her to choose a very gentle and very dense!

The designer prconise use during mastering. For my part, I find it much more INTERESTED Tubeamp use as an insert for mixing.
The voices recorded with a microphone and preamp are magnified a little steep (100% bias), the snare s'panouissent, tablecloths s'paississent. It's simple: Now, I go all in Tubeamp!
All in the rglage of bias that must be chosen according to the source. Some delight with the even harmonics, with the other odd.
Ms. hair gain (like 6-9dB, the drive is progressive trs) gives a feeling of taking too Scheer.

In fact, what distinguishes Tubeamp all other plugins censs mulate vacuum tubes is that it is crdible, useful and above all beautiful. Competitors are trsdcevants.

This little tool is a me. It Ragit diffrent to diffrent frequencies. It does compress a portion of his; pass a threshold, it plutt broaden the dynamic trend. It sometimes takes me by surprise by releasing a patch totally unexpected.

In short, for those who do not possdent prampli tube with variable bias (I do not think there is a plugin ...), this is the masked avenger.
For those who do not have pramp tube is a bndiction.

OVERALL OPINION

When I think that the Russian code that is only one bump on its family of plugins .. this guy is a genius.
This plugin is amazing. Good if you have a neumann avalon and go your way ... for others it is a wonder that will do wonders.
I am not so wedged in "harmonic" to be as technical as the previous opinion, but what I feel is that this plugin makes it finally "credible" I made do with a seineiser E845.
It's not the big, far away, but it adds a wonderful color of its struggling poor acoustic richness.
A must .. and free with it ... wouahou.
Vst and other effects of this encoder are the same quality ..

Voxengo's TubeAmp is a free VST and Audio Units plug-in, designed to warm up your digital sound. There is a newer updated version of this plug-in other than the one pictured, but I haven't used this plug-in in years and the one I've used is indeed the one in the picture above. You can go onto Voxengo's website and download the newest version of this plug-in, which looks more in depth than the one this review is for. I'm not sure where you could get this older version however. As far as the interface goes, it's simply got parameters for drive, tube, bias, and output gain, so as you can probably tell it is a fairly simple plug-in to use. A manual wasn't included with the download if I can remember correctly, but one isn't needed anyway.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

While I am no longer running this plug-in in my home studio, when I did run it, it was in Cubase SX and as a VST plug-in. A number of years ago I switched over to a Pro Tools based system and didn't have a need for this plug-in anymore, although I could convert it from VST to RTAS with the FXpansion converter if I wanted to. The computer that I ran the plug-in and Cubase on was a Hewlett Packard Pavilion dv8000 lap top that had a 3.0 Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM. This wasn't the type of plug-in that I was using very often, but really just had it around because I could, so I never tested it out to see how many of them I could run within a single session. I don't think that I ever had more than one instance of it running in a session.

OVERALL OPINION

While free, I really never found much use in the Voxengo Tubeamp. When I was running a PC and Cubase I downloaded and tried just about every free VST and Direct X plug-in that I could find to see what would work best for me. While I used the TubeAmp initially a number of times, I didn't end up using it too much after that. While sometimes it can add a bit of thickness to your sound, most of the time it wasn't necessary and really only ended up subtracting. While this freebee wasn't for me, I'd encourage those who have VST or AU based DAWs to download it and check it out anyway, as the newer version could be more useful.
