This pre amp has a lot of features that I like. You can get almost any tone or sound you could want, I love the drive on it, you can add all the juicy tube harmonics you want. I like the 9 band graph too, the normal bass control is set at like 70-80 hz, I have to play dropped, so the 40hz on the 9band helps alot! It has lots of dirty grind while keeping it clean enough for recording. The direct out on mine it kind of dirty, not very clean which I dislike. The mid switch is pretty sweet, and very usefull, you can get down and dirty and switch the mids so got punk in one easy motion. I like the tone, and the features.
The direct out is too dirty, the linking on the back could include more patches, it could have some sort of cooling.
Good, strong, well built, nice black finish. It's AMPEG!
If you see one used test it out, one of the best preamps I've used.
