I bought this amp in a package with the Peavey Raptor Plus EXP. It goes for $100us dollars.

I love my amp! It's so loud! I really like it's distortion. The Vintige/modern switch is cool. Vintage gives it a little bit more twang for your buck, modern is like a reguler amp. Who sais fifteen watts isn't enough??? I'm pretty sure our neibors are thrilled about my new guitar and amp, lol!(Just in case anybody didn't figure this out... that was called sarcasm)

I like everything about it and I can't think of a reason not to like it.

    It's really sturdy, good construction.

This amp is awesome no matter what anyone says. The amp is really loud, I mean really loud. I once drowned out a moniter with it. Here's a tip for anyone struggling with their distortion, my favorite distortion is the pre gain at 10, and the post gain at 2, and the guitar volume at about 3 or 4. I hope that helps.

Bought it from music express for about $120.

It gives a damn loud sound for a little 15watt amp. At a gig a while ago when I was using it, it was louder than our opening bands 40watt.

Needs a pedal!! The distortion and clean isn't that great without a pedal and the sound isn't as loud. But hey it's only 15watts.

Pretty solid and has taken what i've thrown at it so far.

Excellant amp for the price. I use it for live gigs - just mic it to the P.A. and you got an excellant sound.

I bought this amp at an out of town music store for 90$. I bought it as a practice amp. I got it shortly after i bought my first guitar. I wanted something affordable but good, and thats what i got.

This amp can crank really loud considering it's only 15 watts. Definately loud enough to be heard over drums and bass guitar, but it is still better used in low volume. It is great practice amp with pretty good sound quality. I love the fact that there is a headphone imput so you don't have to disturb parents late at night.

The distortion is not great and the modern/vintage option is pretty useless.

I would recomend this to any beginner or someone looking for a low-volume practice amp.

This was the first amp I ever bought. I got it at my local guitar shop for around $100

For 15w, you can't get a much louder amp. This dude is LOUD for 15w. I played over drums, and could still be heard. It's a great sounding amp. Definatly one of the top 3 pratice amps you can buy. The headphone and CD inputs are sweet as well

this distortion. It just isn't good. The modern/vintage swtich does nothing. there's no footswtich so you can have flip the switch manually to turn from gain to the clean channel.

great quality, not really made for the rough and tumble road travel, but top notch for it's purpose

I bought this amp for about 100$ at 1 of my local shops.

I like this amp,for 15 wat this thing can kick butt. Its lould strong and worth every penny!

If you are a destortion adtic like me,the built in over drive isnt powerful enough.I recomment getting a pedal. Its also not the cleanest sound. Also when you get close to it with your guitar is squeeks, but a great amp overall

    pritty strong

If you are a distortion person its not powerfull enough, but gread practice amp!

I acquired the Peavey Rage 158 from someone who was moving away and needed to pass the amp on. Then, I was a beginning guitarist, I'd only been playing for three or four months and I had a Johnson strat copy as my only guitar. Asides from a few dinky 10 watt practice amps, the Rage was my first serious amp. I got it because I wanted something that was capable of live play. The Rage, I believe, retails from 60 to 100 dollars...I didn't pay anything though.

The Rage is capable of a pretty big sound. As I advanced as a musician, I bought effects pedals and new guitars. I had my Gibson through a Toneworks pedal and a Yamaha Mixer, and the Rage certainly held up. The sound is pretty heavy on the Rage...As long as you put your guitar through something. If you plug the guitar straight into the amp, the sound really isn't that great or that big. But it can handle a lot of power. For the longest time, I thought it was a 40 watt amp, but it's only 15...15 watts can be more than you need sometimes. I play rythm, and if you hit the guitar hard, the rage's sound can be heard over drums, bass and a lead guitar. Trust me on that.

What I don't like is that I'm really overdriving this thing...I feel like my overdrive is artificial. Like this isn't what the Rage was meant to do. It's certainly a satisfying distortion sound through the pedal and the mixer, but the Rage is better as a practice amp...low volume, one-person amp. I don't like its sound sometimes, either. It really sounds like crap sometimes over the other amps I've got.

I know this thing is durable, but it fell apart on me last week. The electronics fell out of the motherboard, and when I tried to fix it, it didn't work. I don't know. The quality's alright, the thing can get loud if overdriven enough, but there are better sounds in other amps.

The Rage is a solid practice amp, but not enough for the gig.

i bought this amp at a local store for about $80, beacuse i needed a practice amp. and i wish i never bought it!

well i dont like much about this amp, but what i do is the cd input, so i can play along with the music. and it has a really nice sounding clean tone, wich is good for me some times.

the main thing i dislike about this amp is the gain, it is terrible, i wouldnt even call it distortion. it sounds so bad its not even funny, when i first put it on over drive i was like "thats it?" and the modern vintage choice is a joke also, thers not much of a diffrence just like the clean and overdrive. and it dosent even have reverb, wich really sucks, all amps should have reverb.

well i guess its pretty well built, ive kicked it pretty damn hard and threw it across the room and it still sounds the same, wich isnt what i wanted.

so bottom line, if u play clean guitar, well this amp is a good choice, beacuse it couldnt distort if speaker blew. i like the amp for some clean playing once and a while, but i like to play metal, with lots of distortion, and this dosent come close. i use it for a mic amp sometimes, and it sounds alright. but for distorted guitar playin it sucks, but if u play clean guitar this amp is wonderfull. im giving a 3 beacuse it is a good clean amp, so it has some use.

I bought it in december 2000 in Italy and I paid 175.000 lire (about 80 $)

I like it very much for its sound, it's only 15W RMS but the quality is good for the price, I like also the posibility of switching from Modern to Vintage sound, and I think Vintage sound is very good.

Nothing in particular...perhaps some noise if I'm very close to the amp with my guitar

This amp is small but it's quite solid and well constructed

A good starting amp perfect for anybody who wants to start playing guitar

I bought this amp from a friend who was selling his old peavey to get a bigger amp. I haven't been playing for as long as he does so this 15 watt was perfect for me. I got it for 700 and it was in great shape. oh,by the way that's around 175 US dollars.

I love this amp! My guitar never had such a great clean sound but that changed when I got a this amp. This amp includes two channels,3 band EQ, headphone jack and a really great sounding distortion. I have a Boss metal zone and the distortion this amp delivers comes close to the great sound of Boss products. There is only one thing that bothers me and that’s the modern/vintage voicing switch. It bothers me because it does absolutely nothing! You don't really get a vintage sound and actually not a modern one either the amp pretty much sounds the same.

Well, it's a small practice amp, constructed for your practice needs. Not powerful enough to perform with and not sturdy enough. As i said, this is a practice amp. It weighs around 13-14 lbs.
It produces a great sound so i would say that this is definitely a good quality amp.
    They don't make em' better.

    The bottom line is,
If you need a good practice amp , this is it. If you want to have it with reverb get the Peavey blazer 158.

Operation is very simple. As I recall, the manual gave some examples of settings. But I struggled to get good sound. I must say it was my first amp, I had no idea how it all worked, and I was disappointed that my Yamaha Pacifica does not sound any more like the Red Hot.

The CD input is a valuable asset to a working amp. It's light too, it's cool.

    SOUNDS

In short, I too liked the sound of the duo Rage158 + Pacifica (but I kept the guitar, and I give up!). The distorted sound was dry and without depth (now that I think it was really stack). The clean sound a little bland, but usable for work.

I was playing rock / pop (times change) and was glad when I went on a Line6 Flextone III.

    OVERALL OPINION

I played it one year when I started. I did not like, but I can also be misused. Anyway, I really grew after sold this amp, because my new sound motivated me to play.

For someone just looking for a coached cheap amp with a clean sound that, it could. The CD input is nice, but not essential if you have a hi-fi.

I always played metal, and obviously it's a bit limited.
Although with a good setting, we can get a cool sound
(Eg its widened in many mediums with sharp and well gives a punchy rhythm to a)
For lead guitar virtuoso, the distortion is too biting to gallop.
But will be enough to advance.
But this is not the primary purpose of this amp ...
Also the reverb is missing .. the model just above (the blazer 158) has a reverb.
This is especially clear that the lack of reverb will unfortunately feel ..

    OVERALL OPINION

This amp was my first amp. I do not use over a long time. Nevertheless, it still works perfectly (10 years anyway). It's very good gear, reliable.
Also if I drafted this notice, to respond to a request for an opinion.
As stated above, I do not play on this amp since looooongtemps ..
So I try to get back into the shoes of a start to be objective.

So to summarize, it's tough, intuitive and perfect for beginners.
I put a 9 because it lacks the reverb, but for this there is the 158 blazer.
It is not an error on the part of peavey.

I even like the sound of some of the 1950s presets and may toy around with some oldies too. It doesn't come with a full manual but you can download it from the Peavey website (I printed mine out and put it in a notebook for quick reference). Also, it helps to read the FAQs on the website.

    SOUNDS

I recommend getting the FBV Mk2 Express footboard to go with this since you can control volume, quick loop, and the tuner with it (among other things). I am just now tapping into all the features of it so I am sure there is much more I need to learn about it.

    OVERALL OPINION

This amp is good for being loud all the time even when you not playing the feedback is too much for me. If you can fine tune this thing and like the sound you get out of it, go for it, but if you like to change sounds often or just need a better amp in general, get one of the earlier spiders (series II or III) they are way better and a better value for your money. Not that spider overal is better than peavey , but this amp isn’t the best one that Peavey makes.

One thing I used to do as a kid was run an out from this into the power amp section of a tube amp, and it sounded really neat - I thought the tone was reminiscent of Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine. So if you do end up getting this amp, neat sounds can exist even at stage volume, if you get creative.

    SOUNDS

It's a decent-sounding amp for what it is. It's no Bogner or Diezel or Trainwreck, but it's not designed to be. It gets clean, it gets dirty, and the EQ is pretty tailorable, so the sounds this can get are varied. It's a practice amp, so one probably isn't expecting to record a platinum hit with it - it's meant to use for practice, and it works for that purpose.

    OVERALL OPINION

Sevens across the board. I like the amp, but again, the Line 6 Spider series is a better buy for the price range. I liked my Rage growing up, but Line 6 wasn't around then. The Rage works for practice - the external input is a nice bonus. If I was given this amp, or if it was dirt dirt cheap, I'd probably buy one and use it just for sentimental reasons, and it would still get the job done.
