It goes in front, it's coming from behind, it allows to have 2 preamps in a single slot PLC 500.
UTILIZATION
The general configuration is simple?
The configuration could not be simpler.
The manual is clear and sufficient?
No need for manual ... but there is one that is more than enough.
Editing sounds and effects is easy?
No editing of sounds, just a low cut, a power supply famtôme, phase inversion, and basta.
SOUND QUALITY
The sound of your instruments or microphones is correctly reproduced? The preamp makes it clear or does it stain?
Regarding the sound of MP2, I find the same character with the Studer 189 (clarification, I have version MP2 with transformer 990 John Hardy, who are the first series of MP2). The sound is really dangerously close to 189. Neve is more open than in the high and it drops lower in the grave, unless it blows Neve (I had a rack of 2 slices of VR in state competition that I also sold for the same reasons the 189: space and no use of anything other than the preamp) ...
This preamp colors what I need is round and punchy (if I want another color I have what I need).
The architecture of this preamp (2 preamps in a single slot PLC) and its fall to the floor, MP2 is the only choice when you want to make quality a little space in the format API 500
OVERALL OPINION
For how long have you been using it?
I use it since January 2009.
What thing do you like most/least about it?
Most: the sound.
Minimum: the Knob (too small and thin for my taste although it is rubberized.
This preamp would surely another hit with buttons like on the old Marconi Neve 1081.
Did you try many other models before getting this one?
I am fortunate to have purchased a rack slot 500 API 11 JLM Audio, with separate power supply (which can power a second rack in the same format.
In this rack, I had 2 JLM Audio NV 500, 2 Old School MP3 Audio (Big Daddy) and I bought 3 modules MP2 Al.So. DI and a double. I also bought the summing Al.So. but since I try to save space (mobile control) and I have absolutely no use in my config Me, I preferred to sell it and I'm having a 4th MP2 should happen in some time ...
I bought a rack with 2 slices of Studer 189, in August 2008. They were in perfect condition, and reviewed by Olivier Bolling (Al.So designer), and finally, I've sold this year because I never use EQ (I do a lot of decision-acoustic sound, and I work ITB exclusively) so as to resell the preamp + EQ + Compressor, and keep only preamps that take up less space than what I had 3U rack for Studer, or 1 / 2 Rack for Neve Prism VR, with only 2 preamps.
What is your opinion about the value for the price?
Unbeatable, I always wonder why nobody talks about more than these preamps !!!!!
Knowing what you know now, would you make the same choice?
I'm redoing the same choice, I have to buy a 4th slot, which makes me so 8 preamps in a rack PLC 500 11-slot. In absolute terms, I can climb to 22 preamps in a rack.
It's very interesting, and no other preamp offers API 500 does this concept, too bad: save space, save money, his interesting, it has all the qualities.
