« Ibanez RG 270-DX »

My old Kramer Focus 1000 had electronic problems causing huge noise from the pickups when using distortion and rust was slowly killing it. I knew Ibanez was a good price/quality investment and I bought my RG 270-DX used for 320$ Canadian, thanks to internet adds.

What I like most is the way my hands feel on it. It feels like I have more space and comfort. I have long and thin fingers so for me, it's a big plus. Basically, it feels like I went from a guitar for kids (Kramer Focus 1000) to something for adults! The look of it is also awesome (beside the lightning design on the fretboard) and the Floyd Rose patent tremolo doesn't seem to cause big problems so far. Although, I'm not a Floyd Rose power user "a la Steve Vai" so it should be good enough for me. If you are, I would suggest something else, to hire a tech or use a few guitars in your set cause I don't know many guitars that could resist such a beating! ;)

What I don't like is the lightning design on the fretboard. I prefer having regular dots but this is very personnal. The other thing I don't like, and this is a bigger factor, the pickups! They sound a bit too heavy for my taste. I think I will change the neck pickup for a Fender or something more bluesy. The other 2 aren't so bad but it could be better too. They sound a bit flat.

Like I said before, it feels to me like I went from a guitar for kids (Focus 1000) to a guitar for adult. So far, I haven't found any problem with the body itself and the fretboard feels very comfortable.

For 320$ Canadian, I don't think I could get much better than this guitar. In the worse scenario, I'll have to pay for some adjustments and a new pickups at the neck position and I'll end up with a great looking/sounding/playable guitar for less than 500$, which could last me a few years.

I would recommand this guitar for most amateur players with a low budget and I would give it a 5/5 rating based on qulaity/price but a 3/5 in general.
