This is a digital machine that recreates the ARP Odyssey. Level synthesis capabilities, all is faithful to the ancestor, with 2 oscillators, a lowpass filter, a high-pass, 2 envelopes, etc.. Modernity brings its comfort functions, which for the most part, did not exist on the Odyssey: memory (128 + 128 factory presets user), polyphonic (12 channels), audio, MIDI, Division of effects. Unexpected bonus, Fitr type "Moog" which was created for the emulation of the Minimoog (Minimax) is also proposed on the Prodyssey as an alternative to the reconstruction filter ARP.
Finally, the USB connection makes the link with the computer that can control all settings via software.
A reget anyway, this Module is not multitimbral, which quickly turns frustrating.
Finally, the set is a sturdy metal case with beautiful wooden sides. A very nice item!
UTILIZATION
The Prodyssey resumed the front of the Odyssey architecture is silkscreened "old" and the key is manipulated via potentiometers type "Slider" that are reminiscent of the 70s. Everything is so easy to access, very direct and tactile.
The documentation is too brief, but one can very well do without. I fall sometimes malfunctions when using the USB connection but I find it embarrassing: I do not really use the software, except to save my patches.
SOUNDS
This is not the ARP authentic but what it sounds great! In absolute terms, the sounds are excellent, rather like the "aggressive" ... We will struggle to produce really fine tablecloths, the beast is quite good for leads which tear, deep bass, big brass sounds or how to say ... sounds from another galaxy.
The sound palette does not cover all needs, but what this machine can do, it does so beautifully. The possibilities of experimentation is a pleasure and it brings to life the emotion of the pioneers!
Finally, the filter type "Moog" has its charm and provides access to the subtleties between the world of the ARP and Moog.
As the extracts of this kind are few, I've prepared two demonstrations of the sounds of Prodyssey. Rather than just focus on the imitation of the ARP Odyssey, I have not hesitated to exploit the polyphony, the Moog filter and built-in effects. It's not great music but it gives a good idea of what to expect of the instrument: demo Prodyssey ASB ( http://www.arts21.net/index.php/studio/71-prodyssey )
OVERALL OPINION
I love this synth. Obviously, it's not quite the ARP Odyssey with the indescribable charm of yesteryear with the electronics, but in exchange we gain the polyphony, MIDI, memory, stability etc. ... We can always tell a good software emulation is the same. In theory, perhaps, but in practice this box brings direct and sensuality that makes all the difference. It knows no latency, does not require configuration and send it without flinching a monstrous demand. So, I did not feel the same with an app. Frankly, an ARP Odyssey polyphonic MIDI, Moog filter with a bonus, we must admit it's interesting ...
