« great for blues / rock »
Published on 02/27/11 at 06:15I changed the pickups in my tele highway 1 for t Lollar special because I thought the fender in alnico3 original on the guitar lacked musicality, richness, especially the bridge pickup. Having also tele52 a reissue of a certain age who tore his grandmother at her, I wanted to keep the personality of a highway and not a clone of 52, I had to microphones high output, good for blues / rock, but with more richness in the sound.
I listened to lots of samples from Fralin, bare knuckle, tornado, etc. Benedetti, and I opted for Lollar who came closest to what I was looking for. These microphones are not given, but bring me satisfaction. It is true that they resemble a bit of P90 at her, and it pleases me. The sound is both aggressive, twangy electric, but keeps a lot of richness and warmth. The guitar stands out well from his 52, and I have 2 telecaster distinct but both very rich in sound.
I would do this choice all the easier now that I know that's what I wanted, but for a third TV, I would certainly be something else, probably in Lollar, for example an imperial vintage humbucker and a bridge 52, story Keith Richards to copy and Micawber.
