This is a pretty radical Mexican Telecaster. Considering that most of the labor that makes these guitars nowadays is Mexican, regardless of which side of the border it claims to be made in, I don't have much prejudice for the Mexican models as I used to. This guitar in particular is part of the reason I stopped judging the Mexican models so poorly. It has a semi-hollow body, which is a different and interesting choice for a Telecaster. It has a maple neck, a vintage hard-tail bridge, and two wide-range humbuckers. There is a volume knob, a tone knob, and a three-way pickup selector switch. There are 21 frets.
UTILIZATION
The top frets on this guitar are very easy to reach, in fact, everything was easy to play on this guitar. I really couldn't believe how good it felt when I first played it. It had great natural sustain and a great, warm sound. The Tele is actually nice and light, and the semi-hollow body feels really good on my back. Everything on this guitar, assuming it's properly maintained, is stable.
SOUNDS
I used this amp with a Marshall stack and a Fender Twin. There were obvious differences but I was really impressed by how interesting and good it sounded when played through both amps. I like the bridge pickup on this guitar a lot, its bright without overdoing it and really can kick up a storm when used with the right distortion pedal. The neck pickup gives a rich, warm, thick rhythm tone and a great blues lead tone. The most obvious benefit that this has over other Teles is the humbucking pickups. It still feels and sounds like a Telecaster but it really can rock way harder than most of those guitars usually do. I would venture to say that anyone who likes electric blues, or classic rock, or even more modern hard rock, will find much to like in this pedal. I would say that my favorite thing about it is its versatility.
OVERALL OPINION
I love this guitar, and I don't want to get rid of it anytime soon. It makes a great foil to my trusty Strat, and the combination of the two is pretty stellar. I wouldn't have paid too much for this, I bought it in relatively bad shape and had it reset by a professional. That only cost me a little over a grand, which is a really good price considering how good this guitar actually is. Worth checking out for anyone who is looking for something between a Tele or Strat and a Les Paul.
