« Fender Telecaster 72 Reissue »
Published on 06/26/01 at 15:00I purchased the Tele Thinline Reissue at Cinthioli's Music in Philadelphia in the summer of 2000. I paid approx. $540 for the guitar (new) with gig bag. I shopped around at many stores, and this was the lowest price.
This '72 Tele Thinline is a Made in Japan reissue. I find the quality to be excellent, similar to Fenders made in the States. This particular model has 2 humbucking pickups - so it delivers a fat, warm sound along with a traditional Tele twang, depending on which pickups are in use. The neck and fingerboard are maple; they feel great in my hands. The body is ash, with a natural finish. A beautiful guitar to look at.
I am not a great fan of string trees, but that is part of the Tele tradition. The tuners are not the highest quality, but they work fine. At some point, I may upgrade the tuners and install hotter pickups. The bridge could use a cover; the insertd are a bit rough on the hand, which I rest at the bridge. Last, when I roll back the master volume, I lose a bit of high end. I have been told that I can swap pots to remedy this problem.
Excellent quality construction and finish. For under $600, I don't know how it could be better. There was a samll amount of glue / varnish (?)overhanging into the F hole - but this was easily fixed with a nail file.
An excellent guitar for Rock / Country. Wonderful feel, fast neck, nice variety of sounds.
