G&L Tribute ASAT Classic

I did a swap with a Yama sa1000 which I never used. I wasn’t sure about it, being a bit of a Tele lover, having a couple which I use, but it took me no more than 5 minutes hooked up to my THR Yamaha, to realise this was no Fender clone, but a seriously good guitar, which “happened to look like a Tele. A bit like if you let a computer and a wind tunnel create a car, they will all look the same, so if you create a perfectly functional guitar, which is as at home sitting with or standing, which is balanced, comfortable and easy to play, it’s probably going to look like a Strat or a Tele. It’s why 80% of my collection are these, and not Gibson. Gibson’s look classy, but are a constant battle to get comfortable with, and much as I’d love to have one, have always ended up trading them out as they just frustrate.
So my point is, it looks like a Tele because Leo decided that worked decades ago, but it really is so much more. Think of custom shop detail, because that is where it sits. It is a stunning piece of work which I never tire of holding. It plays like butter, and the electrics are flawless. It does do the Tele thing beautifully despite what some say. It cuts and spanks like any Tele. Just back off the gain a tad, and there it is!
The bonus though, is if you wind it up tp 10, then your are in p90 or even near Humbucker territory, and that with the fact there is a lot of quality timber resonating away under your arm, means you can have a real animal in the tone stakes if you want it.
I haven’t gigged my Teles since owning my Asat, and can’t imagine ever going back, No way will I sell them, as they still have a place, but my tool of choice now, is definitely my G&L.

UTILIZATION

Very pleasant to use, the frets are a little high, but certainly contribute to the power of his restored ...
on the other hand I have to make a little more effort left hand side, accustomed to a Cort aero 11 round super fast ... Doing sound casseroles, I took cramps!
the handle was a bit "dry" new, normal.
A simple lubrication oil of lemon and a few hours of play made it absolutely brilliant and very nice ...

SOUNDS

The sound itself is just great with mics (the same as us models), you can even adjust the height of each block individually ...
This is the first guitar that gave me satisfaction in the clear right now ...
First test in the clear on a fender deluxe 70, amazing!!
the sound palette is rich, powerful but clean bass, everything is very balanced and powerful sound is how to say, crystalline, slap it much stronger than strat ...
I also have a G1L tribute legacy, the difference in output volume in the same configuration is amazing!
So, used to play with the volume to the max, I discovered with this guitar the interest of the volume potentiometer with this guitar, so the nuances of sounds are important ...
ditto for the tone, very progressive, the knob ensures a tailored sound in the style of a very significant way ...

I was full of different guitars, I buy, I resell, etc ...
this one is on I would keep a real favorite, and the finishes are just perfect, absolutely NOTHING wrong ...
I play the guitar since 1983, this is the first time a guitar effect that makes me!

UTILIZATION

handle VERY nice, I play an Ibanez with a handle near the highway and the relatively thick paint can slip very easily. Compared to a fender handle is "fine"

I pierced it is more stable than a fender, otherwise it is a TV and less burdensome

the head is not so ugly as AC, actually it's not a fender head round, but we made it and in the end I prefer the head g & l

SOUNDS

It's the sound that really surprised me. I was with a view to buy a fender but after testing the baja and the classic series, I fell in love with the clean sound but crunchy with a very good stability (micro us) with effects as the distortion. One can easily get a fat and heavy and has a clean sound crunchy.

I play in vox amp and I love the asat used with delay, chorus and overdrive.

I play mainly old school rock and indie, and this guitar is made for that and for all, it has a very good range of sound.

OVERALL OPINION

do not buy Mexican, buy g & l
I recently but it is amazing
as I said I tried almost all the Mexican range of fender and I am left with the asat. Afterwords it is essential to test if you are looking for a TV.

What I like most is its pleasant side to play, its work, and 22 frets. After the color could be more cream but each his own

I still feel like stealing the store so the value for money is good ^ ^ 500 euros with the cover to tie a fender over 900 euros, not better

UTILIZATION

The handle is really cool, the strings are for me at the right distance from the handle which is very nice (matter of taste). I use it mainly as a rhythm guitar but she is quick to play some solos, this is a telecaster what is more normal. The nickel finish is really apart from a slight vibration under the pickguard when I play without an amp I hear a little what bothers me but I will heal!

SOUNDS

On my Vox AC 50cP here sounds super clear sound. I take for example Where is my mind Pixies and rhythmic sounds really great. Arpeggio it is better to select a microphone (depending on course preferences). Saturated rock is also very good but obviously should not ask her out riffs of heavy metal. I found the sound that is me using my '78 MXR distortion on the clean channel of my Vox.

OVERALL OPINION

This is my first telecaster. I tried a Fender Baja in store for me to realize the playability of a telecaster with far only strat. Fender Baja has a fairly robust handle but very enjoyable to play.
I have a Fender Blacktop Strat Fender so I know but being a fan of Alice in Chains Jerry Cantrell and therefore, I was intrigued by the brand G & L fairly common in the trade.
Finally I found this model to a crazy price, € 300 almost new (about leboncoin). The dealer was a manager of a music store that closed. It was one of the last guitars he has returned so it is separated for a bite of bread. I seized the opportunity.
