«  A good head »

Small head tube amp, the Blackstar HT-5RH is given for a power of 5W. It has two channels: one clean and one drive. The first is reduced to its simplest form with one volume and one tone, the second offers a 3-band EQ, volume, gain setting and the famous ISF. This setting provides a sound U.S. or UK with all its intermediaries, says the manual. In use, we note that this is primarily a medium for further adjustment.
This is a digital reverb for both channels. An included footswitch lets you change the channel.
At the back of the head, many connections are available: Hp external 8 or 16 ohms, headphone AND HP emulation with a choice of 1x12 "and 4x12", effects loop.
Everything is in the end. Even a standby!

UTILIZATION

We are dealing with a head-ultre settings offering traditional configuration is very simple and the manual completely dispensable.
The equalization proves really effective (I stress this with "really" because we all tried amps which we wondered why the race of the tone knobs ranged from 0 to 10 for as little change in the sound!). The ISF is also very efficient and allows real changes stamps, how to move forward from there you move from one sound to its U.S. UK ....
The highlight of this amp: it sounds excellently in drive with a grain very musical.
It therefore has access to a wide variety of sounds and finding the right sound is a breeze.

SOUNDS

So yes, put an end to unbearable suspense: the Blackstar sounds great!
The clean channel sounds warm, velvety and the only button "Tone" is fine. You can raise the volume to its max, the sound is clean with a strat and crunchy with just one LP. A good point!
The asset-drive is the master of the head that offers a wide range of adjustment of the gain level. By placing the minimum amount and substantially the volume, we get a nice clean, bold but still defined. Needless to gain maximum to find a high level of distortion, at best last-position-15H obiendra-tone compression but at the expense of a breath result (noise gate mandatory but that's normal).
Note that the emulated output and reverb stereo (alas digital) allows a connection to two tracks of an audio interface for a true stereo.

OVERALL OPINION

I do this, unwanted head that plugged into my M-Audio Fastrack Pro and Protools.
The result is quite convincing. Head accepts pedals well at a restriction applies: the compressors do not seem to make much impact!
Connected to a Palmer firm with a Celestion Vintage 30, it is a winning formula: a high noise level, defined and dynamic particularly like Les Paul.
The price / quality ratio is quite correct for this Korean head very well made (it's still significantly better than the Chinese manufacturing, that I am systematically).
To use a home studio, I seem to have an excellent product.
Combined with a good firm, we arrive at a budgat about 500 €: this may seem expensive for the small power displayed but the sound quality achieved is given.
Here is a particularly polyvalante head which has nevertheless its own character and attractive character.
