USE

Well it's a preamp, nothing wicked good ...

SOUND QUALITY

I put this post especially for the previous answer!
I recorded an album with this preamp for a month, and frankly about 1032, with headphones or mix a breath then we never noticed Gnant ... the album is t MASTERIS out and nobody noticed ca.
it is true that utilsait exclusively digital output to attack protools, but I doubt that the breath you had either normal, in my opinion he was the flingu 386!

non frankly it sounds this little rack, hey I not found extraordinary that, it is certain that there is much better.

NOTICE GLOBAL

I do not own this machine but I have had the opportunity to exploit it and I find it pretty good.
The preferred is the digital output (again I do not know if all the models have), converters seem rather good, the result is good, a little color lamps without overdoing it either it's going it's cool ...
having bosses on the biggest gear I know not worth ca references but ultimately there is no secret, the more expensive it's good (with a few exceptions).
This preamp is worth its price ... OCCAZ I think it's a good deal (with SPDIF output and in good condition !!) if I find an expensive not I take it !!

UTILIZATION

Easy to use, nothing special.

I liked the default settings to démmarrage machine can be defined, which will save me 2 sec each time, but this is just details.

There is still a true default:
The signal first passes through a transistor amp and a lamp and a second small amp transistor.
The level LED indicates the level after the second transistor amp, so far ok, it can manage its levels out of the machine.
The problem is that there is no viewing level before reaching the lamp, therefore impossible to know how it is close to the saturation of the light (which is not very pretty, it has more the sound of a saturated transistor that lamp), which spoil some taken.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound of the lamp is not very interesting.
The sound made me look good, but I have not tested many external preamp is the same one I used.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for about 6 months, I did not try the other model by the preamp of my sound card.
I like the digital output, the ability to amplify an honest manner (not like the basic sound cards)
I do not like the light that saturates when I not expect, and that bothers me to adjust the levels properly.

I remake that choice or price I got: 350th on clearance, which gives it a very good price / quality ratio.

UTILIZATION

Very easy to use.
Choice of digital output and the conversion rate of LED colors.

SOUND QUALITY

Reserve gain correct and sufficient.
Lightly colored tubes (lower medium).
Very good dynamic.
Very good quality converters.
As master, the clock is very stable. I never stall. And quartz has over 5 years now.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for more than five years.
Perfect tool for a home studio. By computer music, it acts as a audio interface of very good quality (just a simple SPDIF input on the computer).
Value for money fully justified.
Little weak on direct contact with my bass (Aria Pro2, active EMG mic). Equalization and treatment is needed to compensate for low to drool a bit.
I realized all taken from my album with this coupled with dbx C4000B AKG for vocals and a AKG C460 + CK61ULS for classical guitar. Quality is more than sufficient, dixit my producer who mixes currently in the studio.
The resolution of 96 kHz is more than sufficient. For my part, I use the 24/48 which prevents the computer to its knees in less treatment.
This is an excellent choice for those who want more than just an audio interface as there are hundreds of today and those who do not have the budget for a tube preamp and high-flying high-converter very expensive range.
With the dbx 386 and a good microphone, your shots are quite usable.

PS: I put 10/10 to compensate for the opinions and evaluations joe63 trivial. My overall rating is real 8 / 10.

SOUND QUALITY

It's a tender and amne ngligeable not, especially with the bump on qd numrique. I love me anyway.
I prcise I use it primarily live. Sometimes I had to face before the EQ. But I will not have a large config.
The A / D converter is good and p'tite height (1U) is super convenient qd we do not want to go on runs with a 6U rack. To avoid the low and the instruments that we volumes trs variables.
Just a Little thing. Console Output (L + R) trs it saturates quickly. This is just to have to con adapters XLR Jack to qualify for the CSA.

OVERALL OPINION

has more than 3 years that I use and I never afraid to impose technicians home (just for me because I do not want them to put on my gear in mdir pr text that I can not afford the XL42 or neve). Often, when we know the beast and the sound adveloppe, one can clearly amliorer the mix. In any case feel the diffrence of Manir clear.
Before buying it I did not test the BCP pramps lamps but since I work with Avalon and of course, means a more (or even too lol). I bought it for its good qtprix. I'm not. It would great. Strong and effective.

The Dbx 386 is a tube based analog and digital pre amplifier. It has two channels, each with its own XLR and 1/4 connections as well as separate metering and parameters for each. Each channel has a knob for drive, analog output level, and digital output level, as well as buttons for a pad, phantom power, phase, and low cut. This is a rackable unit and will take up a single rack space unit.

UTILIZATION

The configuration of the Dbx 386 is pretty easy to follow and it won't take long to figure out what everything does on this unit. It is easy to set your level and the vast amount of parameters allow for this to be a versatile unit that can be used for a variety of applications. I don't have the manual for the Dbx 386, but it is easy enough to use you shouldn't need it if you don't have one.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality of the Dbx 386 pre amp is warm and rich and great for a number of different instruments and applications. I have used this pre amp to record vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drums, and bass guitar and I always find that I get good sounds when using this pre amp. The sound is warm because of the real tubes which gives it a unique sound that is tough to replicate without real tubes.

OVERALL OPINION

I've been using the Dbx 386 for about a year and I have found it to be a great sounding tube pre amp. It isn't too expensive and is a great deal for the home studio owner. Dbx makes some great pre amps and the 386 is a nice example of what they can do. Overall, the Dbx 386 is a great option for a cheap tube pre amp.
