Published on 04/27/13 at 05:35I needed a USB that is operational on Linux, with good quality workmanship in all audio interface, so I appreciated the quality of materials, the strength of the Scarlett 2i4, as the presence of Integrated 2 instrument inputs / mics, needing occasionally preamps, recording my own sound, my saxophone and / or singing with my microphone, and also to record an electric guitar (directly on the Scarlett).
I use it in main audio interface on a laptop "barebones" Clevo, connected to two monitor speakers ADAM A3X. I also use a USB / MIDI Controller Akai MPD32 and a USB master keyboard.
The config of my laptop: 15 "screen, Intel motherboard, Core i7, SSD 256GB + 750GB 7200RPM disk, 16GB RAM, Nvidia.
UTILIZATION
Ultra-stable drivers for Linux 64-bit Ubuntu Studio 13.04.
I use 64-bit Renoise (the ultimate tracker!) As the main DAW to compose, produce, sequencer, sampler, and play my music (Electro, Dubstep, Glitch-Hop, Experimental and Ambient).
Renoise is cross-platform and runs natively on Ubuntu Studio, via Jack or ALSA, no latency: 0.00 ms is obtained thanks to the core "real time".
GETTING STARTED
Installation: you plug and play it live without any other procedure, a child's play, and pure happiness. The card is directly supported by the Linux system, I will (almost) natively, and immediately seems to work without any problem drivers or anything.
Not even need a manual to operate the Scarlett 2i4 is very intuitive: dedicated knobs for volume "monitor", the headset volume, gain mic / instrument, etc.. Everything here is very classic and well made: the quality is, overall, good.
OVERALL OPINION
Really not at all disappointed with the quality / price, Linux compatibility, performance, quality manufacturing report, characteristics, I would do this choice without hesitation.
