[NAMM] New sE Electronics microphones

sE Electronics is attending the NAMM Show 2014 where they introduce two new versions of their X1 and X1R mics, along with the new sE5.

The first news is the reissue, in an improved version, of the sE X1R ribbon microphone. The original microphone recently gained a new popularity while sE Electronics had decided to discontinue it and lowered its price. Thanks to this new fame, the brand decided to relaunch the microphone with a more affordable pricing ($199) but with improved quality. For this, the sE X1R features the mechanical elements of the VR1 and VR2 models and offers increased performance in the high range, more flexibility and ease of use. You can then use the new X1R with various sources ranging from guitar cab to vocals, drum overheads or brass.

Specifications:

  • 2µ aluminum ribbon passive microphone
  • Polar pattern: Figure 8
  • Frequency response: 20Hz – 20kHz
  • Sensitivity: +55.3dB
  • Impedance < 200 Ohms
  • Max SPL: 135dB

The new sE X1R is available immediately for the US price of $199.

Also new in this sE X1 series, the USB 2.0 version of the X1 condenser microphone, which remains a cardioid model and features the following specifications:

  • Frequency response: 20hz – 20kHz
  • Dynamic range: 135dB
  • Sensitivity: –27dBV (mV/Pa)
  • Equivalente noise level: 19.8dB

This new version will be available in March, price is TBA.

Both microphones ship with standard clips but can be used with the new Isolation Pack shockmount with built-in filter, available as an option for $49.

Last, sE Electronics adds to its 2014 catalog the sE5 small diaphragm condenser microphone, that will be available alone or as pair. This improved version of the sE4 is designed for both live and studio situations, to record pianos, drums or strings. Its specifications are the following:

  • Cardioid polar pattern
  • Low-cut switch at 100Hz
  • –10/20dB pad
  • Frequency response: 20Hz – 20kHz
  • Sensitivity: –34dBV/Pa
  • Equivalent noise level: 14dB
  • Signal/Noise ratio: 80dB
  • Max SPL: 170dB
  • Impedance: 200 Ohms
  • 48V phantom power required

The new sE5 will be available in February. Pricing is $299 for the single version with a shockmount and $599 for the pair with two shockmounts, a stereo fixation and an aluminum case.
