first heard the drum and bass sound way back in 1994 at the age of 11. A certain track on Now 32 called “Inner city life” which I liked although without knowing why had caught my ear and although it sounded like nothing else out there it had a strangely alluring quality to it compared to the rest of my knowledge of music at the time. I had no idea what the sound was or where it would lead me.

As time went on and I got a job and would end up spending my money on random compilation CD’s with Dreamscape Drum and bass being the first purely dnb cd I ever bought. Certain  tracks like Usual Suspects - Killer bees had an addictive quality to them and with the advent of the UK garage sound that was exploding at the time I quickly became infatuated with the dark bass and rhythm driven sound. This wasn’t helped by a desire to fit over sized sound systems into totally inappropriate cars to get the most out these sounds.

It was only once I got to freshers week and one of the activities was mixing lessons that I bought a set of turntables. Bits of kit have come and gone over the years before settling down to the classic 2 CD decks and mixer approach. Theres a reason its still popular.

Over the years between 2002 and 2011 I started on trance, moved through progressive and tribal house, touching on techno before, 6 years ago, during the “electro revolution”, moving entirely on to drum and bass. As I dug more and more into the sound, I found tracks that increasingly pulled on the influences of growing up but one theme has always remained constant. Complicated drum patterns and a good bassline.
