SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I use this app on several Macs, including an ancient bipro G5 with 2GB of RAM. No sushi, it works quietly, even with all the "micro" and open all the velocity layers.

OVERALL OPINION

This app is really excellent, obviously, to get a realistic drum track, we must apply the programming level. From MIDI files included in the plug is a great way to learn the subtleties, especially at the cymbals and snare.

After, that is happiness: the top backline is used (and there are several extensions not too expensive to vary the style, as a sort of super EZ drummer), the catch of his blameless course ... Repisses management is a real pleasure.

Already like that, it's really cool. but in addition we have a whole series of plugs from Sonalksis dedicated to the special treatment required by the battery (gate, eq, compressor, transient designer ...) with a very honorable quality. on the other hand, then my G5 it really pulls the tongue! New plugs into the plug, breathtaking!

The price / quality ratio? it is not outrageously expensive, if you ask me. Here we have a plug that allows to obtain drum tracks that can compete with any production, provided that we take the time to properly set.

installation of soft base without worry. For extensions I met concerns (small bug in the metal foundry cd) but I managed to get out.

you better have 3 gig of ram for some metal kit for other banks with less things go.

a use that is fairly easy to understand on the basis of preserving base. If we enter the programming kit that's more personalized Sioux (choice of pickups, buses, setting elements of the kit, controller response, effects, ...) but doable.

The sound quality is top nothing to say.

OVERALL OPINION

I have 2 years and I appreciate the extension and custom metal that fits with what I do. In recent weeks I use session drummer of more native because it is faster to program effects kit. there is a good integrated reverb that does not exist in toonrack. In contrast, in toonrack kits are programmed with wand, broom, stick and mallet and sometimes that's a sacred difference with the competition.

Installation in two parts: first VSTi, then the database on 5 DVDs. These are two separate facilities which is very sensible (reinstalling the software does not involve relocation of the bank ...).

This is the point a bit dark, it was only in electronic format (in English and I believe I'm so used to reading English than I even realize the language ). I would prefer a paper manual, but the cost would have suffered

Yesterday. So I did not go to the ends of soft. But I must say that I took a big slap.

- What is so special that you love the most,
The mixer: the routing impeccable and well thought out. More buses than needed, up to 16 stereo outputs (from memory)
overall quality: it does not feel the soft hacked. Repisses management is really excellent!
sound: most so to speak. I have the app since yesterday, but instead of DFH Superior, you have a better dynamic on clear and overheads. The cymbals are bright with more punch. The toms sound more "modern". I conquered. The amount of microphones recorded an impressive example for the bomb was in micro, micro out, micro sub. 3 or 4 others for the clear, five (!) Room mics, ...

Nickel! Installation takes to break everything, a 30taines minutes whereas with DFH I put 3:30!!

Performance level, we can say that the guys from Toontrack have Bossé. The management of the RAM completely improved; loading kit multiplied by 3, adding a MIXER with 16 + stereo outputs an audible range etc ...

OVERALL OPINION

+ Points:

What blew me away compared to DFH (which I saw as the most powerful software I have ever used to buy) is ... THE SOUND!
I have been playing with a slap! This is a stunning realism and a great dynamic! I assure you I come back yet. With the bank-NY AVATAR you can use preset effects that are awesome!
It's so huge that not even I bounce my files as I was on DFH! I stay in noon!

Points -:

-> Can not use presets for effects of NY-AVATAR on my bank DFH Superior, shame!
-> The sample set-NY AVATAR is too short! But what he is good! (Hopefully an update or cartridges ...)

Installing a bit long because of the 5 DVD
A small bug at the start (does not recognize my other banks EZdrummer) after restarting cubase + re-enter the authorization code everything works again.
config intuitive when you have a little experience and the principle of the brand, it is for others to see.
I have not opened the manual, but in English I do not understand, I will like hab'en groping or surfing the forums for tips and tricks.

The software works very well despite a lack of recognition of some other banks ez but pb solved.
The performances seem excellent but I have since yesterday, I do know that Toontrack is very strong in this area

OVERALL OPINION

I like the slightly more complex pro but compared to EZdrummer. It's silly, but like everyone else to darken the Ez, full of people had the same drum sound .... the possibility of using other banks Toontrack is sound. It seems it is intended or designed to work with an e-drum, so I tried with my td3kw galley and I still charley set correctly, but I will take more time to address them. Small flat, I'm afraid of falling back on a potpourri of extensions EZ (all that I have) but I only used half an hour at the moment)
I am a fervent consumer of Toontrack, BFD I do not know in detail but I find it expensive, however well xln
The top prize is, in my case of Ez crossgrade to Superior 2.0: 169 eur

I had to reinstall 4x because it was impossible for me to find the samples (and to date I still have not solved this problem) either as Fruity Loops, Sonar and recently Reaper 2.x

ouch, everything is in English (€ 250 software with instructions for use more than average)

EDIT: small update on my opinion. I just got a new PC and this time the installation was done without problems! So I put this on behalf of my old PC which was a bit "limited"
I have not really paid attention to the duration of the installation, but takes about 30/60min (depending on your config of course)

So here on the performance everything is perfect it turns great! and yet I have not yet installed sound card
I use Fruity Loops 8 and in the past four, I never had to worry! no crash nothing, perfect!

design, but the level I can say nothing because once installed it is very difficult to get by, for example, just to find the samples .... it's been one week now I have the software and I still have not found the solution, even with the aid of the forum

Ez Drummer, it helped me really well this little program, simple and convenient with a good sound, what more? ok so this is the kind of software a bit limited but I asked no more, then I wanted to have the model above to not just be limited but hey, that's not what I expected .. ..

€ 250! Frankly at that price they could have put a notice a damn bit better, and why not in French, but here it makes me laugh limit

I do not think can be solved my problem once I change my mind, I do not know, but I just wanted to share my experience

EDIT: It is now three years since I use this app, and I think it's simply amazing! I also release my first album in 2009 (see my profile) and some even thought I used a real drummer! even the sound engineer (a former drummer) asked me what software I worked on
What I find so awesome at Toontrack Superior Drummer or rather, is that many professional drummer participated in this soft and then it is not based on a style or two, like rock / metal ... but here you have a wide range of additional kit 20/20!

So here, do not pay too much attention to my previous remarks, I'd just have SD 2.0 and a PC with very limited I really struggled to work on it, so you must rely on the EDITS

The Toon track Superior Drummer 2.0 is a top of the line drum sampler, I stumbled across this looking through a bunch of websites and reviews on drum software because I was looking for some real live drums without having to invest into a drum set just for my home set up. So I came across this and gave it a shot, and I was surprised right off the bat. You basically have a drum set right in front of you on the screen. They all sound great and realistic. Added a whole new dimension to my songs now that I can put some live instrumentation on the track.

I ran this on my Toshiba laptop and it worked great, didn’t eat up a bunch of cpu. Never had one single issue with it on my window xp laptop. I ran it through fl studio and with cubase a few times and it worked great with both, never crashed and never froze up on me.


OVERALL OPINION

Overall I was amazed with the Toon Track superior Drummer 2.0. I havent seen a better virtual drum machine out and no one can tell by listening that it isn’t actual real live drums that you are playing. The drums can be used for any genre of music production from hip hop, to jazz , rock, metal. There is also built in midi drum grooves. You can also edit your midi notes really easy, just like you can on most of your basic daw softwares. This program is very easy to use you wont need a manual for this you will be ready to go right after you download it. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase of the toon Track superior Drummer 2.0. This program has took my live songs to a different level without taking up studio space!

Yes of course I know all versions of the drums and sampler TOONTRACK from beginners every time they leave a new version they surprise me because they always find a way to soft for their amliorer Manir significant .

Install is literally a snap. You choose how big you want to go. The core sounds are roughly 3gb or so but there's a lot more if you want to include all the ambient mics and such. That's really all you have to do. Simply open up your software DAW and get going. Now I have heard people say they have to calibrate Superior for performance on some systems but I have a very capable desktop so it ran fine without any haggling. Load time is fast as lightning. I never experience any slow down.

Learning the program itself can be intimidating even for past toontrack users. The interface has been totally revamped and there's a few different features as far as midi and velocity settings go. You don't have to get in depth with the functions to use it, but it helps to really read the manual or at least watch some videos on it. I use an axiom 25 with Superior most of the time and there are a few things I did to improve things after reading the manual.

I am what you would call a mid-level user. Not a drummer, but I know a lot about Superior. I use it in the studio only. For tracking drums for full songs. Performance is flawless. Never a hiccup. Very stable. I've been using it for a long time now. It does what I need and sounds great. The samples are amazing.

OVERALL OPINION

I have to say, while the vsti itself is much improved in look and feel from the old toontrack stuff, the biggest positive here are the samples. They're just great. I don't think any other vsti can compare. The price, considering what you get is appropriate. I definitely recommend it if you need a way to get pro drums tracks in the studio.

I’ve used this in Logic Pro 8 and 9 without a problem.

I have a Mac Pro 2.66 Quad Core with 8 GB of ram and a White Macbook with Intel Core 2 Duo Cpu with 4 GB of Ram.
I’ve used it extensively both in 32 and 64 bit modes, and triggered with both midi keyboards, drum pads and Electronic Drum Kits (Roland TD-6)

If you use all the bleed and options, you can easily pass the 3 GB loading. So a fast computer with at least 4 GB of Ram is reccomended.

The installation is really easy and the the manual is clear


OVERALL OPINION

I’ve used and continue to use Superior Drummer 2 on plenty of projects, mixed with Addictive Drums and Steven Slate (I admit it, I’m a drum samplers junkie). But between the 3, SD2 is the more realistic and tweakable.
I’ve used mainly in pop, rock and metal productions in conjunction with the “Joe Barresi Evil Drums SDX”.

If you cannot afford the expenses of a real studio this plugin used with a good Electronic Drum kit, and obviously a good drummer will give you outstanding results. The built in Sonalksis plugins are really good to sculpt the sound, and the bounce and mapping options will save you a lot of headaches and time.

There are also other libraries, and I can say that the quality these guys put in their products is outstanding. They cover all the ground, from soft ballads to Black Metal.

The software in itself is really deep, you have to understand how it works to have the best results, but thanks to the manual, and the free video tutorials on the Toontrack website you’ll learn how to use at it’s best in less than a week.
