Getting Started
The installation and configuration are easily one of the developer's goal is to reduce the number of option.
The manual is obtained by pressing F1, there is no pdf file, it is concise and is not translated into French.

Suitability/Performance
I used it on different configurations for a 300Mhz with 256MB of RAM to 2.5Ghz with 4GB is in my opinion one of the lightest DAW

Overall Opinion
I use Orion for 10 years, is the tool I needed to produce electronic music without recording acoustic instrument.
I tried and bought many of the sequencer: energyXT, Traktion, Samplitude, Ableton and FLStudio but my pleasure comes from the mode pattern which eliminates a large number of competitors, it is FL Studio or Ableton, but I think neither one nor the other has been designed to integrate the design of a mode pattern and mode of arrangement in harmony and intuitive.
FLStudio mode pattern does not suit me as a pattern is a collection of Ableton instruments or orion then combines pattern has an instrument.
Orion design does not limit what I choose to display, in the case of Ableton display of multiple sequences modified (piano roll)) and the arrange window, leaving a corner wst not!
orion stop me just to display the piano roll and a VST GUI at the same time but I can have three different piano roll to open the Arrange window and GUI effects or other instrument open!

displaying a mixer with EQ, pan and its volume is integrated into Orion in Ableton you have to click on each to check the mixing chanel no overview possible!
orion with automation can be recorded at the patterns of how plaisr let it run its loop to change a knob and repeat the movement to see, copy / paste the pattern and start again!
Ableton if you want to record a movement that is setting mode only!
voila, I made the rounds of the positive aspects of workflow Orion compared to its closest competitor, of course ableton has its strengths (modularity, live, flexible audio routing, bus and send as many as on orion) I appreciate and use!
in addition to an exceptional workflow Orion has all the instruments and effects you could want (except additive), the quality of these effects and instruments are of a very high level, the only problem being the limited number of preset provided , people did not like or do not have time to do the sound design will be disappointed but what a joy for others!
I would add that you can make your own skin to get the look you want!
if you want to record a rock band or use libraries of samples (although this is possible) this app is not for you but for those who want to write music in a piano roll is heaven!

j'utilise Orion depuis 10 ans, c'est l'outil qu'il me fallait pour produire des morceaux de musique électronique sans enregistrement d'instrument acoustique.
j'ai essayé et acheté un grand nombre de séquenceur : energyXT, Traktion, samplitude, Ableton et FLstudio mais mon plaisir vient du mode pattern ce qui élimine un grand nombre de concurrent, il ne reste qu'Ableton ou FL studio mais je pense que ni l'un ni l'autre n'ont été pensé des la conception pour intégrer un mode pattern et un mode arrangement de façon harmonieuse et intuitive.
le mode pattern de FLstudio ne me convenant pas car une pattern regroupe un ensemble d'instrument alors qu'ableton ou orion associe une pattern a un instrument.
la conception d'Orion ne limite pas ce que je choisis d'afficher, dans le cas d' Ableton l'affichage de plusieurs séquences modifiables (piano roll)) et de la fenêtre d’arrangement tout en laissant dans un coin le vst est impossible !!!
orion m’empêche simplement d'afficher le piano roll et le GUI d'un VST au même moment mais je peux avoir 3 piano roll différent d'ouvert, la fenêtre d'arrangement et des GUI d'autres effets ou instrument ouvert !

l'affichage d'un mixer avec ses eq, son pan et son volume est intégré dans orion dans Ableton on est obligé de cliquer sur chaque chanel pour vérifier le mixage sans vue d’ensemble possible !
avec orion on peut enregistrer des automations au niveau des patterns quel plaisr de laisser tourner sa boucle de modifier un potard et de le voir répéter son mouvement, on copie/colle la pattern et on recommence !
avec ableton si on veut enregistrer un mouvement c'est uniquement en mode arrangement !
voila, j'ai fais le tour des cotés positifs du workflow d'orion par rapport a son concurrent le plus sérieux, bien sur ableton a ses points forts (modularité, live, souplesse du routage audio, send et bus en plus grand nombre que sur orion) que j’apprécie et utilise !
en plus d'un workflow exceptionnel orion possède tous les effets et instruments dont on peut rêver (sauf synthèse additive), la qualité de ces effets et instruments sont d'un très haut niveau, le seul problème étant le peu grand nombre de preset fourni, les personnes n'aimant pas ou n'ayant pas le temps de faire du sound design seront déçue mais quel bonheur pour les autres !!!
j'ajouterais que vous pouvez faire vos propres skins pour obtenir le look que vous souhaitez !
si vous voulez enregistrer un groupe de rock ou utiliser des librairies de samples (bien que ce soit possible) ce soft n'est pas pour vous mais pour ceux qui veulent écrire de la musique dans un piano roll c'est le paradis !
