Light cheating: It's actually one active speaker that feeds her colleague with a passive terminal.

SOUNDS
This is a review "hot", I received yesterday morning. I wanted a second monitor system in addition to my Dynaudio BM5-A.
Listening to: I do not think so "Hi-Fi" it, despite their reputation ... Too bad for me, that's what I was looking for! No, they are many monitoring speakers, although entry-level. Actually low imprecise, they drool a bit, and highs seem a bit overstated, while sounding a bit metallic, I think. Beyond all that, the sound is quite pleasant, not too unbalanced ... Actually a little flattering.
Bass Boost? blah ... It inflates the lower the already messy struggle to represent little HP, so no need to add!
A / B comparison with the Dynaudio BM5 Summary-A (to help locate the sound, the two models do not play at all in the same category, the Dynaudio worth 1000EUR pair): I hear a noticeable difference in the stamp in general, it is more neutral, deeper and more natural on the Dynaudio. Depth, above all, it's amazing ... All of a sudden the sound of AV40 seems like glued to the speakers, a little flat, picked up ...
Bass: The Dynaudio does not swing so much (I need a sub!) But they are precise and clear.
Mediums: although more on the Dynaudio, those of the AV40 are so far not unpleasant, it sounds a bit Vinyl, sometimes "grainy" (I do not know how to say)
Treble: Rather successful
The dynamic is pretty good against the transient is not as accurate as the Dynaudio course, but they do well at this level! The 20W are there!
The stereo image: here, the difference is huge! On tablecloths or large strings mixed in a song by zapping the AV40 I lose half of their presence! ouch! The accuracy of placement, especially towards the center, is poor, but good for that price you can not expect much, obviously!
For that price I do not see what you can ask for! I put 10 for that reason.
OVERALL OPINION
Excellent Q / price, good overall sound given the size. It would seem a bit risky to mix it because of the overall lack of precision bass + mid + stereo, but to compose and arrange, and if your budget is limited, it will no pb!
