Digidesign AIR ReverbPublished on 03/28/10 at 14:31
The Digidesign AIR (Advanced Instrument Research) Reverb plug-in is a free piece of software that comes with Pro Tools 8, the newest version of the popular recording software. It installs when you install or upgrade Pro Tools itself, so there isn't any extra steps that you need to take to get this installed once you've installed Pro Tools 8. The interface of the software is very easy to follow, and it offers up a wide array of parameters for a reverb plug-in especially. The main parameters include those for pre delay, room size, reverb time, balance, and mix, and the rest of the parameters are split split up into a few different sections, including those for early reflections, reverb, ro…

So as you can see, there is a ton of control over your reverb sound, which isn't something that you get everywhere. I haven't seen a manual for AIR Reverb, so I can't say anything about it's make up.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

While I haven't upgraded yet on my own system to Pro Tools 8 LE that includes Digidesign AIR Reverb, I've used Pro Tools 8 and the AIR Reverb plug-in on a Pro Tools HD based system that runs with an Apple Quad Core desk top, a Digidesign 192 I/O interface, and Apogee converters. I can't say that I've ever had a problem running this plug-in within this configuration, but of course things could be different on an LE system. It really just depends what type of system you're running it on...

    OVERALL OPINION

While the Digidesign AIR Reverb plug-in isn't my favorite sounding reverb that I have available, for a free plug-in it has a very respectable tone quality. I love how much control you have, as it is possible to get all sorts of different tones with this plug-in. I really can't complain at all about this plug-in, as it is a free one. For this reason, if you've got Pro Tools 8 I'd definitely recommend checking it out and playing around with it. If you're thinking about upgrading from an earlier version of Pro Tools to Pro Tools 8, I'd definitely encourage you to do not only for the AIR Reverb plug-in but there are a ton of different plug-ins just like this one that come free as well. All in all, the AIR Reverb plug-in is a very nice piece of software for a free bee...
