I've had this mixer since I decided to start taking my production seriously. It is a simple, cheap, surprisingly functional home mixing board. The board has 6 mono inputs/faders with an XLR, channel gain, return input, FX send, 3-band EQ, 2 mono aux sends, pan, a PFL switch, and a mute switch. It has 2 stereo i/o's with channel gain, Hi/Lo shelves, 2 aux sends, balance, a PFL switch, and a mute switch. 2 Aux outs send via T(R)S, 2 monitor outs via T(R)S, 2 master XLR outs controlled by a set of LR Master faders. There is a knob for the monitor out gain, and a phone jack with it's own monitor gain. There is a set of 2-track i/o's. This board is equipped with +48V phantom power that feeds the mono channel XLR inputs.

I marked this board as "beginner" because sending a signal to the master is very easy. However I feel like truly pushing this board to it's limits takes some significant understanding of signal processing.

Overall I give the Soundcraft EPM6 4/5. This board sounds great sent to a full-range PA or farfield monitors, nearfield monitors, and phones. The amplifiers are clear, transparent, and honest. There's no "sheen" or glimmer to this board. If your input sounds bad, you'll know. I find this a very nice feature with the board, although some engineers might find the amplifiers somewhat boring. Driving the solid state electronics at the fader to peak gives a gritty low mid range distortion that I like.

Very easy to use, which is nice when you do not have time to get lost in the details while you only need general functions.

OVERALL OPINION

Excellent console for home studio not too complicated and without headaches. I used last year for acoustic recordings (guitar) and vocals with Shure KSM137 and AT2020. The result is perfect for me.

Hello, me and my brother play mainly electronic music and live outdoors for leisure, this has soundcraft EPM6 (205 €) and me mackie VLZ3 which has cost € 350 + so not much dear!
I guarantee you that the sound of the EPM6 is really, really poor beside the mackie!
to the ear, EPM6, makes his incomplete handed the VLZ3 and at least neutral! see better!
In the hands EPM6 is more a gadget with fader which are not far from grinding for nothing!
in the hands of the mackie is very comfortable with seems slide faders on the ouch with protection against poussier.Je just want to say that with EPM6, we just make that sound restrained and
if you play after a mackie, it is necessarily above!! necessarily want to sell and ultimately more money spent!! so what only 150 € "the purchase eCard!

Extra small console, it filled his role perfectly for small acoustic benefits. The two auxiliary bus pre / post each are really very uncommon on small consoles. All inputs / outputs are balanced even jacks. Equalizers are effective and relatively accurate.

UTILIZATION

The console takes over very easily, no need sound engineer to understand. Everything is easily accesible.

SOUNDS

No breath now found even for this small console the sound of Soundcraft.

I tried a few MODELS studio and live but not in the same range (including a Yamaha 01v, numrique console) .. There is probably a Difference with suprieures ranges, but I think it will turn the gain knob as a patient to the right to collect them. This console is perfect for home studio use.

Well its always the same, always the reliability and Resistors, also of happiness in making guitar, vocals, bass (OHLALA, bass), brass etc. ... always 10/10:-P!

I love her more, but I would inserts, Sends, and returns, she dpanne, I occasionally buggy, she makes it well by keeping warm and round sound. It's beautiful when love moves small small ...

I will not repeat all the specifications, it has been said before. Here are still some observations:
- Different consoles I knew before (and Mackie Phonic), this console has a power supply built into the frame (and not this little block external transformer).
- This power supply is a fairly quiet PMPS and do not even if it turns heated for several hours
- The console to a grounding cord from the IEC. Not bad, because on the other consoles chassis with external block, it was often a few volts AC voltage measured to earth (sometimes it reaches tens of volts, and it's really not necessary) if we use the Console peripherals without having a ground contact
- When I use it with my amp (which has a touch of earth, too) I could not see that the ground contact of the table leads to the formation of a ground loop causing noise on the signal -that 's good like that!
- We can supply with voltages from 90 to 250V and frequencies of 50 Hz and 60 is perfect for the musician or band that moves abroad (it's not me, but ... .), simply just plug the right cord with IEC in the format of local businesses ....

This table is not really compact nor too large, it can be used in home studio applications or live with a group too large or "too much power" etc kind combo. She has some versatility (EPM 12 begins to be great for the home studio, unless ...)

The switch is missing - especially given the fact that the power supply unit is integrated. That's why there are not 10 points.

Finally, feet glued to the front (in the faders) come off pretty easily, because they did not really fit for this place (it has to be a rounded shape). But they are easily replaced by anti-vibration domes self-adhesive quality from a DIY store for a few tens of cents ...

It was delivered with all the faders up position when I unpacked, but the pre-amplifiers were all at minimum gain, which is more important to avoid surprises
unwanted sound.

UTILIZATION

The config is good and logical, the position of the knobs is clearly legible and there is no double functions as some Mackie. The different colors of knobs and faders facilitate quick orientation on the table.
The knobs to move a little (plastic rotating shafts), but that does not mean they break at the slightest stress ...
The XLR connectors are Neutrik.
The manual is brief but adequate and we get to start soon.

SOUNDS

I do not see what color the sound that much, but of course the media "parameters" can take some grain.
We begin to hear the breath with the faders + channel mix to max only when the gain of the mono channels is pushed to the 3 o'clock position. 12 o'clock position, it is quiet everywhere and it's great.
EQ is well thought out and effective.

OVERALL OPINION

I recently received in exchange for my new Mackie 802VLZ3 that was not the case.

My first impression is very positive that console "ensure" good and is fairly quiet and think of a musical for stage use.
Now, this impression should be sustainable ..

For about 200 Euros, the price / quality ratio seems very good.

"Opinion of long duration" to follow later.

Addition of 13/04/2010: I did not bcp. used in the meantime, but when I took it out recently to make music, she still completely amazed ... I left my amp (low) power with all portards adjusting its neutral position and I only adjusted the sound on the console: it was happiness. Big beautiful sound! Beautiful machine!
