If you need a mac that is within your budget this is the one you need. The Macbook 2.4 Ghz comes with a few different screen sizes as well. Of course the bigger the screen the more you will have to pay to own it. I owned the 13 inch version and it was really cheap. comes in only one configuration for 2010, has a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 250 GB hard drive. Battery life and overall performance are better than the previous version, and you can play games I 3d like modern warcraft! .The white plastic covor stays cooler than the aluminum on the MacBook Pro laptops, but it also shows dirt and smudges more easily which can make it look really old fast just from the scuffs it can get. You'll also miss out on some features, including a backlit keyboard, memory card slot and FireWire port. If those features are important to you, the 13-inch 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro Is worth the purchase, but im pretty sure they have discontinued this version. So if you want it you will have to probably check eBay but you should be able to get one for really cheap.
The downside of this laptop by apple is no firewire and still no pcmcia or express card to add insult to injury, so it's a non-starter for any kind of music application. In particular I record with M-Audio FW410 which would be useless on this laptop. This was almost a deal breaker for me but I really wanted a macbook so I went with this one. I haven't had a single issue with it event though its not produced no more I love it and apple still offers great support on it! You should look into getting this mac book.
