WARNING! Amp GUITAR! (To see it mouth ampeg v4 on the same site is this one!)

All Tube Amplifier Head, 60w, manufactured in late 1960 / early 1970.

I said: 60 watts is not a joke, my triple X (120watt) I have never tanned ears as much as the V2! (I stress, this beast is monstrous power, I do not even see the benefit of its big sister, the V4, which it is 100 watt. They're crazy!)

WARNING!

2 channels, with a volume and distortion and the other with just volume. They share the same eq.

Both channels are very similar. The clean channel gives a cylindrical probe, hot and powerful. The distortion channel is more compressed. It delivers a easy to master, and sharper, but still mega powerful.

2 switches:
Mediums: three positions to color mediums
HI boost: ben is to boost the treble

EQ: ACTIVE: It's that simple (low, mid, Treble) but I feel like a different amp every time I turn the knobs!

Reverb: ma-gni-cific, common to both channels

Connectivity is comprehensive for an old amp, while jacks:

Speaker out
Speaker ext (to put more boxes)

Power out, preamp in: an effects loop.
Can also use another amp at the same time or add an external volume pedal master.

Footswitch: used to control the reverb.

I put 8 because the equalizer is not easy to learn, but it is comprehensive (especially for the time).

UTILIZATION

No man: Is there a way to find the net. It is comprehensive, but very messy. We feel that the amp comes from another time, but, as with any instrument is the practice that helps to identify the object. That said, we have a good overview of the features.

According to the config and simplicity ...
3-band EQ:

EQ Bass and treble very dynamic, very responsive and very accurate. The button has little effect on severe highs and vice versa. It seems logical, but do the test: play the low E with acute knob of your amp at 0 and 10 on the V2 it does not move hardly. (Edit: all is explained by the fact that the equation is active)

Mediums: here is Byzantium. Where the Bass knob plays mainly on the Mi and La, and the treble and mid so, the medium color across the sound, it makes you go from-20db to +20 db.

A-20 db, we get a little cold but its a very "flat" and easy to work with pedals, at 20 we try to hide where they can not die for! It's hot desire, it starts to cruncher his mother, and it can get very very fat if we played with a humbucker.

In between, there are a host of intermediate sounds, of course since the EQ medium passes from -20 to +20 db, we must compensate with the volume ...

2 switches are also color the sound:

Medium: 3positions is a global parametric EQ: 200, 500 or 2000 if I reminds me much. It really changes at the bottom: very serious, versatile, and very sharp.

Hi Boost: To boost the treble. Practical EQ to compensate for some very serious pieces, without breaking anything.

Ouff .. With all this it is clear that we must look for a while to find her, but waouw, what does it rocks! I feel that anything is possible!

I put 9 because it is not easy to use.

EDIT: the use of an external volume pedal allows you to boost the preamp, for warmth by controlling the power of the power tubes. The result is twofold: better sound at low volume (ouff, saving for the repeat) but even more possibilities of sound on stage ... (And this is one fun!)

SOUNDS

Globalementle sound is very fat, I think that's typical of the old amps. I mean, he must play hard to take advantage of the lamps, but suddenly it sends an exaggeration. Basically, imagine 3 or 4 fenders with the gain very low and the master VERY HIGH at the same time every time you scratch. (Edit: with the master volume, this feature is shrinking, and the amplifier becomes more docile and sweet)

It is suitable for all styles, but obviously with the pedals, since his fate clear. But beware, you need to know to play!
I mean he's going so strong, should be measured to death for the attack of the strings not to sound too much the quiet parts of songs.

The clean channel is tailored for clear sound, nothing else, the volume to 6, 7 or 8 is made more noise than a plane, but it does not saturate, it's big, bold, strong, but not effect of overdrive, just a great big crunch from 4-5. Friends of jazz, funk, blues, enjoy ... I put a Boss DS-1 and a 0D-1 and you feel it diminishes the power of the amp! It's not going together!

The channel distortion starts to saturate earlier: about 3 or 4 cruncher and you start to overdrive it to 4.5 (note no distortion, I speak of a slight overdrive). As against this channel more defined, more compressed agrees very well the DS-1 and OD-1
Here, we feel that the amp reveals another side, much more suited to rock, pop, punk, etc..

It's very impressive, but the fault is clearly a super fat. Most U.S., not British. Must be tame. (Edit: with the master volume, default is much more manageable)

See more at www.ampegV4.com. If you're doing in English, is the bible ...
8 / 10: a fantastic amp, but difficult to master. A real thoroughbred.

OVERALL OPINION

It's been a few months I have ...
I love the fishing is still a double-edged sword, repeating it is a bit annoying because I can not put myself in great volume. PAr it hard on stage against a max!
I tried many amps before, and I hesitated between Orange, Vox, and Ampeg. I cracked on this one because it is very rare, make sure that in fact a unique sound, because Josh Homme plays it, and I'm a fan. Also because it is very versatile and because a beast that sounds like that after 30 years of existence it's super strong.

Price: 670 Euro, far less than orange but have to buy pedals for the distortion side. (Orange, we are still on another planet, but one day I will pay for that luxury!). I hesitated also with a vox, more affordable than orange.

Looking back, I'm happy to own such a receiver, but I opted for an Ampeg combo, because it is very powerful, and again this is not always obvious if you play in a small room. on the other hand, on stage: it is broke!

In brief: 8.5 / 10, a grain unique opportunities for its incredible, no limits!
