« The ideal compromise? »

Published on 11/28/13 at 07:12
Reidmar the head is a small transistor Swedish design, but made in China, and operates in Class D. Power is 125W @ 8 ohms, and 250W @ 4ohms. Front, one in the order the Character switch which is basically an equalizer preset, adjustment of input with its small LED that indicates the saturation gain setting for the integrated compressor, a switch to activate a Equalizer 3 bands semi-parametric, a Bright setting and finally the volume knob. At the rear was the switch and plug for connecting the power cord, HP Speakon output, headphone output format Jack (not mini-jack), line output, the Send and Return of the effects loop and a DI XLR output with 2 switches, the first to enable or not the EQ in the DI and the second which is a Ground Lift.
I put 9 because I would have preferred a headphone mini-jack, and the ability to connect the speakers Jack (in addition to Speakon), it avoids having to lug his cables in full rehearsals or concerts where most of the time it offers the HP cable Jack. Otherwise it's all good.

UTILIZATION

The manual is small but adequate. In English it seems. In a few hours of play you can go around the possibilities of this amp, once you're familiar with each control sound is easily obtained.

SOUNDS

I use the head with 2 speakers EBS Classic Line 112. It allows me to have the same texture of sound, I prennes a single cab or 2.
Sound precisely. It is nickel, one branch and it sounds. With EQ and disabled Character is very transparent, we find all the characteristics of each branch low to him. With Character engaged, we get a good vintage sound, or Ampeg Ashdown type without a copy of one or the other. Most often I just this configuration. I play with a Sandberg TM5 active, so I set the EQ knobs bass with the amp without Character, to have the bass sound that I love, and then I starts the Character for it rumbles! I once had a Fender Classic 70's Jazz Bass, this amp has made me rediscover my instrument, which ultimately does not really fit me, even if the sound was good too. Incidentally no worries for Si serious with my config.
I tried to play around with the EQ, but I'm not familiar with semi-parametric rather accustomed to the 7-9 band graphic, and I mess a little to adjust them properly. And since the sound is fine with me by bypassing, I'm not trying to go further. I can only say that the corrections are very effective, and he is welcome to inflate or brighter sound on some scenes.
The compressor does his taff, nothing to say, EBS knows how to deal with it (not for nothing that the Multicomp is so famous).
Used in a group of French song and a rock band, he finds his place in both contectes no problem, and must be able to adapt to many others.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought my "little" stack EBS successor to a "big" U.S. Ampeg stack (a B2R head and 2 cabs SVT 210HE and SVT 15E). Over time, I found that my config Ampeg had a lot of flaws: lack of space we often took only 1 cab for concerts, impossible to find the complementarity of the 15 'and 10', the complete stack weighed about 80kg without flycases, the sound lacked overall fishing, even having built a Markbass Compressore between the bass and the amp, and power (350W yet displayed), no ground lift on the DI. Having left my main group, I no longer useful nor place for such a gear, so I decided to change. And I am delighted now (!) The sound is at the top, more dynamism and power felt with the Ampeg, the complete stack weighs 37kg (re-!), I have the headphone jack for home, with a single cab it is good for the horse and taff sessions in small groups, with 2 one is prepared for small and medium-sized scenes, keeping the same sound spectrum. In short it has everything that I missed before, and even more.
At the time of purchase, I had some reservations with a similar configuration in Markbass. The concern of EBS is that it is very difficult to find in the store, he had to decide without trying to compare. But 1100 € all against almost € 1,600 for the Markbass, the wallet finally decide. And finally it is not so bad, I tried the 2 side by side at the reception and seemed Markbass below, with a sound that becomes rough when we move away from the amp, unlike BSE . And little bonus, I sold my compressor.
In conclusion, I would say this is the perfect amp for my use. The value for money is not bad in my opinion, it may seem expensive for the made in China, but I am sure they are quite capable of doing very good stuff if you put the price, and with a good specification as it seems to be the case here. I used to try bass store on EBS HD350 head and a baffle 15 ', I found the same sounds that made me dream home.
If I need more powerful and 4 times higher budget, I would buy probably something else (a Classic SVT and 8 * 10, or Orange AD200 head with a Mesa cabinet, the best config on which I played, or config EBS), but if I had the choice again with my current needs and desires, I would resume this amp without hesitation.
Its only real flaw is that it renders very low sound different branch to him, not a low top top not sound a very good bass sound of hell ... -1 Unable to find the test (but this is not due to the amp itself, but rather a bad philosophy of the importer), and because I had to buy a better bass to be on top.
