Zoom 708II Bass

I wanted an effects pedal because I wanted to prove to my band that we only needed one guitarist (I love Pantera!), and after looking in all of three decent music shops in Cork, Ireland, this was the first with an expression pedal and the salespeople werent trying to flog a guitar pedal on me. It sounded good, so I bought it for €99, second hand.

It is small, looks good, and has a good sounding wah, plenty of options on it, and a relatively useful manual. When I was personalising the effects arrangements, the manual made it easy to understand how to move them around, and modify them. The pedal can be used for gain, wah, volume, and many more, and although its tricky to get the right distortion sound at first, it pays off in the end. It also has an onboard tuner, easily accessed. It also has the capability of storing up to 4 minutes of sound samples on a smartmedia card (which I haven't bought or used yet) to be played back during sets.

Power adaptor and smartmedia card were separate, and you'd never use some of the preset effects that are available, and they have a tendency to clutter up the list of effects.

It has a rock solid (graphite?) base, and the surrounding plastics are fairly solid. At first I thought the tone of some effects were fuzzy, but I had to configure them to get them sounding right.

It is a very good pedal. It is my first one, and it has given a very good impression, especially given the price. I recommend it to anybody who has been playing bass for a short while and wants a good pedal at a good price.

Same look as my little 506 ZOOM: anthracite and orange. Pretty solid plastic.

Sufficient memory: 60 users, 60 presets.

In addition to the multi-effects, it has the same price:

- Integrated with assignable sampler samples (samples stored on smart media, up to 30 minutes in total)

- A looper, simple to use (function "Hold Delay up to 2 seconds) with superimposed sounds.

- A box very correct rhythms, also assignable to patches. 60 rhythms. Not changed but rather convincing.

Input and output jack, power supply or batteries, Aux input. and expression pedal.

UTILIZATION

Effective parameters, it is really handy:

The procedure is simple: [edit button -> change each effect in the chain -> store] button

First the choice of the base with the big button, then for each effect chain (accessible by the arrow button) three knobs to turn.

Pressing Store, and voila, no sub-sub menus obscure ... just a peculiarity: some effects are adjusted with three settings, others with 6 parameters, as it is sometimes necessary to support a once Edit for an effect, and sometimes a second time on Edit to change the role of each knob.

Expression Pedal: the intensity is adjustable to modulate choice: wah, pitch, modulation effect, gain, reverb, volume, hold.

Finally: I actually feel adjust effects pedals following rather than managing a digital plastic board ... especially as each patch has a name that is displayed and can be changed as you like ... practice to navigate, easier than a number and a letter.

SOUND QUALITY

Then, quickly, without exaggeration, it really is, absolutely, very complete as multi-effects:

- Delay and Reverb: the choice is monstrous, light his repeated once quietly in the background to infinity feedback!
- A whole bunch of Disto, Overdrive, Fuzz.
- Essentials Phaser and Flanger, Chorus, Tremolo, Pan obliged to find happiness.
- Wah is nickel, very good Defreter.
- Compressor, Ehancer, Amp Simulator, EQ, while the number of copies for each its intuitive and fast control system with 3 knobs.
- Where I was very pleasantly surprised, this is the synthesizer sounds, three basic sounds and once passed through the effects there's something fun okay!

OVERALL OPINION

Five days he is home, I am delighted. It is reliable, simple, sure sounds good.


All is not perfect: when the sample is assigned to a patch using the stereo is lost.
Another problem is the volume and the tempo of the rhythm: they are not storable. Can change without problem, but when we turned off all the tempo back to 120 and volume of rhythms hold the factory setting.

However, given the opportunity, ZOOM out a good product with the 708 II.

Mxicaine low-jazz, Laney Hardcore Max 160 b. If that's the type of instrument then only with my bass, use a guitar should be feasible.

I recommend anyone who wants to discovering the effects and make use mm live. Before the purchase of essential individual pedals.

Effects: a multitude !!!!!!! it's amazing, plus the sounds "signatures" such as "Pastorius" or "gran" (Marcus Miller)

Digital technology of course, all patches are editable, with many choices with many possibilities of effects

Came with a jack recess, output, input adapter (with a little support very useful to block the power cable), analog volume control pedal of the general and another entry for small jack (useful for RCA cables)

Very good effect, sometimes funny (like the effect "ring" that looks more like a pinball lol
