One of the 3 or 4 turntables K7 best ever built!

3 heads / dual capstan. Dolby B, C, MPX.

- RELIABILITY: more durable, no doubt! 9.5 kgs, direct drive (no belt) by 4 huge engines synchronized quartz with 3 microprocessors Phillips. The transport block is extremely strong and really built to last. Mine runs flawlessly! Must say that the same construction as the model Studer, the latter providing a control volume pot and not by + ES XLR.

- FUNCTIONS: very innovative for its time (about 1985) as equipped with an automatic calibration of the plate from the cassette tape in place (biasing, bias, equalization, type of Dolby ...) . The operation takes about 20 seconds. Memory locations can store this information as presets, when using multiple cassettes of the same brand & type it suffices to recall one of those presets.

Similarly, it recognizes the length of cassette tape automatically. A real time counter (min: sec) is updated with the insertion of the cassette, even if it has not been rewound. During rewind, hold an optical sensor strip passing between the primer and the band itself ... etc.. Similarly, the presence of 2 loop with locators.

Like any self-respecting 3 heads, while recording opportunity to choose to listen to the source directly or the signal recorded on the tape. Rglage automatic recording level (& manual, obviously). Fade in / Fade out the registration on a keypress.

- SOUND: I have no basis for comparison, but the forums molten these machines place the sound quality of this device just below the top (Nakamichi. etc. ..) and it is played a bit! Besides the specs are impressive for a cassette deck: SNR 72dB, 30Hz-20kHz bandwidth, WOW 0.1% ...

Weaknesses:
- I / O RCA unbalanced in this model is intended for the audiophile consumer market at the time (!!!)
- I'd rather large knobs for the levels rather than key presses, although the latter have a very nice touch
- Ergonomics of choice "LCD any" questionable: only the words RECORD cligote which informs us that is in record mode ... They could have split a red LED, but I quibble!

I was gone for me tracking down a plate K7 EUR 50 for transfer of the compounds of the 90s, and then as always I am interested in the subject (K7 readers, so) thoroughly, and I got that little of KIF a beautiful machine, powerful and solidly built! For 200 euros, except problem ahead is a case!
