Cool idea, works well! Cheap and reusable!
Published on 12/02/11 at 17:44In the studio my DW set often suffers from afterglow ringing sound. In a live setting this is fine, as I feel it adds a certain reverb sound and sounds great. However, when in the studio it is something I wish to avoid at all costs. In my attempt to silence after ring, I came across the remo muff ring control set. Changing heads, dampening, cymbals, sticks, beaters, all these things depending on the music and situation are taken into account when recording. These ring controls are cheap, are reusable and really do help muffle unwanted ring sound. I also use them live when I am in a very small location and playing soft jazz. I’ve also recommended these to friends who have drum sets and need to stop afterglow ringing. I have a friend who after using these on the top heads, also uses a set for the bottom heads. IT works out well, and is awesome. If I could make one suggestion, when playing my snare really hard I began to notice the edge was lifting, so I quickly taped it down. This got worse with time, and once when playing live it got loose and broke free wraped itself around my stick. I had to take it off, and after the set I threw it out. I think for 20 dollars, this is something that is totally acceptable, as with wear and tear use I’ve had them for about 2 years now and can afford another set no problem.
All in all, there is nothing better or cheaper than these to dampen after noise from drumming whether it be in a live setting, or in the studio. I can safely say that the only down side to these is that they break when hit accidentally with a stick as I did. It is no big deal though, as they will outlast their worth, and are cheap as is.See less00
