I love it!

Technics SX-PR53Published on 07/14/11 at 08:05
88-key piano with a very nice keyboard (I am originally a piano player). Comprehensive connections for an easy setup (midi, stereo output jacks, 2 headphone outs on the front panel for more comfort and built-in amplification/speakers). Plenty of sounds. The keyboard instruments (piano, ep, organs, harpsichord, etc.) are really nice and pleasant to play.
It is also an arranger (16 tracks) and has split and dual functions. It is very comprehensive
Moreover, it features a diskette player/recorder, which allows you to record or load your music into the built-in sequencer. Personally, it was of great use to record my first compositions! :) Nowadays I record directly on the computer, but hey......…

For more detailed features you can look on the internet.

UTILIZATION

In my view, the keyboard is without a doubt its main strength, as well as the overall ease of use.
Everything can be easily edited, channel assignation and changing patches is self-explanatory. In short, it is very nice and easy to use.
The manual is well done, but it's almost useless! Except maybe for some composition functions (set-by-step, sequencer, recording, etc.), if you are not used to using such features. Otherwise, everything is self-explanatory.

SOUNDS

Most of the sounds are a bit outdated today, obviously. But it's a piano from '98! Don't forget that.
If you want very realistic sounds, you'd better turn to a specific emulator and use the SX as a (high-quality) master keyboard.
On the other hand, it certainly has all the sounds "common" to all pianos (as I mentioned in the features), which haven't aged a bit. In that sense, it is very generous compared to modern pianos, which are pretty poor in terms of play and presence.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought in 2000 to replace my piano (I moved into a student housing) and i have never been disappointed!!!
I changed and diversified my pianos when I started giving concerts.
It is not easily transportable and my needs were broader.
I would definitely buy it again today because it is really sturdy (it's still intact to this day) and very pleasant to play with. When I first bought it, I tried almost ALL pianos in the store (a piano store) and it was really the most comprehensive and pleasant at this price point.
I would really recommend it to anyone learning piano, for schools or as a family piano. It is very elegant, not too bulky, and really perfect as a digital piano.
Moreover, given its age, its price is a joke nowadays when you consider tis main features, which remain superb and intact.
I love it. That's for sure!
It obviously isn't the most adequate for a professional (there's no point in admitting otherwise), but for a student, a school, as a family piano or for a home studio, it is pretty relevant and powerful, despite its age.

IN CONCLUSION:
Pros: the keyboard, the pianos sounds, the two headphone outs, the built-in amplification/speakers, the elegant design
Cons: the number of outdated sounds and functions nowadays (like the sequencer), which can easily be found on any computer (and which were a big plus back then, but today are useless for most users).
