    Nice but not for me

Quasimidi Raven MaxPublished on 12/09/12 at 20:33
The Quasimidi Raven was made in Germany and it is geared more for the live musician. It is heavily dance influenced with its sound set. This is a 3 osc synth with 24 voices polyphony keyboard that is well made and travel friendly. The interface of this synth is very simple and user friendly. You can figure out the flow of this keyboard within the first 10 minutes of using it and you won’t have an issue from there on. It does come with a manual and the manual is available in English, French, and German. You can arp sounds with this synth and there is one filter section. The filter section is decent but there is nothing about it that makes me want to use it a lot.

The filter section is decent but there is nothing about it that makes me want to use it a lot.

    UTILIZATION

Editing your sounds with this synth is not easy, but it is not hard either. I just feel like it is time consuming trying to get everything to sound the way you want it to sound. With the price that this board cost, it really is not worth the purchase unless you are a dance producer or live musician. Otherwise you will be stuck with a set of dance sounds that will be difficult to edit (time consuming) and the effects section will not do you any justice.

    SOUNDS

The sounds are for dance music and maybe some trance if you get into the filter section. There are a lot of sounds that just were not usable for my current set up and direction that I am taking my music. I used the Quasimidi Raven for 4 months before retiring from it.

    OVERALL OPINION

You can do some cool stuff with this keyboard if you take the time to fully understand how to get the sound out of it that you want. It will be time consuming, but if you are a dance musician or producer it will be worth the purchase. There is no doubt this is a great synth, it just was not for me.

64 voice polyphony, what more ... on some ground they are useful trs.

    UTILIZATION

General Congiguation simple: very simple, it's a synth for children under 2 years old, beginners dals synthesis, you imagine, you rules, you listen, you pee happiness.
You click on edit, you're walking from page to page, one after the other to cut the sound, and voila ... You recommend the second OSC, you add an effect, an ARP, and here a performance of Death, in short the synth for Dummies publishing.
The manual is simple and complete and is available in french on the net.

    SOUNDS

Style of music is hurting the bottom, it is very specific, sometimes 80's, but I did often Dance Rock with a prod, just dpend on what you want to do, it is very difficult Able and goes everywhere.
Do not expect a moog or a virus, it is between a 106 or a JD800 Jono for tablecloths and strings and a mini moog or a supernova for the low, the sound is round and pais, low sound and ground transports, leads to the lovers of Van Hallen or A-Ha to recognize is specially not his strong point.
It is very atmofpheric transandentale and I understand by it have not yet t meet the rank of the divine of the water ....

    OVERALL OPINION

I look, I'm dreaming, I find .... two years it will take place on the top of my stand, my gods, it is beautiful ...
I do not use it every day but every time it is a joy.
What I like most is the sound, atypyque and password everywhere, always in the Submitted prod's.
What I like least his drum kit, and a lack of effect of a more basic Arpegio
I have a thirty analog creatures, including a Moog aniversary, a 106, and even a JD800 and a MicroKorg Doepfer, so I can compare it and its place in my stands, it does resemble is nothing to otherwise, it looks like we've put in all the good old 80's synth.
Qualitprix, blah rarely so expensive but are found on the net + / - 500, there are plenty of site for sounds and info
If I had the choice the era I would buy new, it's a collector, it is now in the production of high retouve Dance style 80's revival ... Eryc Pryds, Justin Timberlake and is in the parking Robby Williams Tower, a real go anywhere this one.

    UTILIZATION

The configuration for a "normal" use is very simple and edition sounds relatively simple when WO was a synth in his hands.
There are two modes: a "perf", the equivalent of a synth or sound monotimbral can be composed of four layers of PCM. You can also splitter in 2 +2 (or other) which fills a little gap in the mode "sequencer". This mode "Perf" is the equivalent of a mode patch today.
The mode sequencer, a little more complicated but with functions such as trs INTERESTED gnration of "sentences" in case of lack of inspiration.
This mode full air but I never use it, I am using the mode "patch".

Attention in two modes: these days we are used a patch mode and a multiplayer mode. You might think it's the same thing here but no, there are some major diffrence I will try to explain simply:
As I say, in "Perf", the sound can be a composition of internal waveforms (PCM sounds) of up four layers with two assignable effects and a arpgiateur (but CONTRL not only one of the PCMs and not the four time, or when alternately).
Mode "seq" allows you to use 16 MIDI channels, but on each of the 16 midi channels, you can not assign a PCM core: Unable to use sounds so crs in "Perf" in Seq mode is the only default of RAVEN ... what a shame.

Therefore Whereas it is a synth monotimbral (polyphonic) if we want to exploit his "synthse" multi-layer PCM. Split the keyboard you get to the 2 +2, the equivalent of a bi-timbral nice but with only one MIDI channel rception (including not a true bi-timbral in the strict sense).

    SOUNDS

The keyboard is really excellent. I found a small problem of MIDI time limit when I use my keyboard as Raven Matre in "local: OFF" but I do not know if this is from my config or Raven in his m me. In my case nothing serious, I do not use that mode "local: ON".
I love this synth PCMs of high quality are made of beautiful sound with trs: Bass, Synth, choirs. The sound output is excellent, although pchu. Given its age, it's a great machine even if the sound is not as bright in agus on some current machines, now it really does not envy some current synth.
For those who like the electro of 80/90 is a real rgal!

    OVERALL OPINION

I rv of synth there are ten or fifteen years, but the era he remained out of reach for many people because of the price. I always AIM for the Quasimidi his inimitable texture and often unfairly criticized. I had a Technox and Polymorph I gard.
Then one morning I came across an ad and I bought it.
I have for over a year now and it's a real pleasure to play with, both for its quality as for its sounds. Seen its share of time, it's a deal. Even if I have many machines ct qqes latest issue and "powerful" (Virus Ti VSynth or XT), I find it a real place in my components and I am not pr t of lcher.

Raven was one of the first synths to assert its "vintage". Its look collector is one of the most successful: wooden sides as prophet and dark blue finish to the PPG, it is classy. In addition, this synth is built like a German Panzer: 100% metal frame! Those who know the brand know that this is a Cyber 6 painted blue, so a very good master keyboard (also used by Klaus Schulze). Its only flaw is the lack of buttons on the surface, which reflects the internal architecture, but still frustrating to control vsti. Inside there is a tone generator based Technox and the quasar and a mega arpeggiator which has spilled much ink (and sweat), the famous motivator! "Tekno smeckt gut!

    UTILIZATION

The Raven is a synth part, with a philosophy and a sound to share as well. Its goal is to dial-hum ... say-produce music Techno / Rave / Dance / Trance, but also the Electronika (phew!) kraftwerk style, Schulze, Jarre etc. ... And as such, it is very effective for two reasons:
    - The primary motivator is a killer and combined internal sequencer, all really torn; y 'to listen to demos ... You should know that this synth is back on the front of the stage (especially American) and his back side ... Not for nothing!
    - Deuzio: the sound is very "fit in". Although it is basically a simple sample player, bass and drums have a potato rare when the sheets are super dense and large (more than a JV / XV or a ground for example. ...)
The effects are very badly weathered on the other hand (too low resolution and digital) and must be replaced by recent reverbs or real analog phaser (but this is the case with all old synths such as the built-in effects ... D50) .
The manual is a weird quirk (there were severe in smoking Quasimidi ...), but the machine is well designed and once we understood, it runs smoothly. This is not a gas plant as a korg karma.
Last important point: this is not a search engine sound, and the editing possibilities are nil. As such it is more a groovebox keyboard with a nice range of sounds ready to use a "synthesizer" itself (hence the lack of buttons).

    SOUNDS

While the PCM from legendary vintage synth, but the machine prints out his paw so sound that finally does not care where it comes from ... (Anyway some samples of Arp Odyssey never transform into a Rompler Odyssey!). The main thing is it sounds really fat and thick. Overall the sound is very distinctive, colorful and a relative accuracy limit lowfi ... That's why this synth "feel good" analog synth! All families are covered electronic sounds with words very well for bass, drums and tablecloths. The FX are so good, keyboards and brass are generally very accurate, small sequences of sounds great (of course, is the motivator of the cam!) And leads sometimes very good (the patch "Lead Klaus" is fabulous). Obviously no general sounds. The only real regret is that the filter is really very limited and does not sound (but then, as the Korg WAS and is a very good synth!).

    OVERALL OPINION

I love my Raven-max! individual who is a synth perfectly complements any set-up Japanese. The look, the motivator, the quality of the keyboard and of course the sound conceited just make an exception in the world of digital synths. on the other hand is really too typed for solo use multitimbral mode. But in performance mode and coupled with a good processor, you have a wonderful machine worthy (but not replace either, do not push it ...) Collectibles of which it is based.
